Has anybody tried to bypass Ford and get engine parts through Yamaha?

Yamaha doesn't have the parts. Unfortunately, Yamaha only helped design the engine. Ford did most of the work (damn) :( . Also, nearly all of the components outside the engine block are made by Ford. The best site that I have found for SHO engine components is rockauto.com, but there are others.

Apparently the valve shims used in the SHO are the same ones used in Yamaha motorcycles. So you can get brand new shims from your local Yamaha motorcycle dealership. But that's the only part that I've heard of that's available from Yamaha for the SHO.

Nah, almost 100% FORD. Go figure, the alternator is made by mitsubishi. The information I got was from my Father in law who served on the board of operations from 1988-96. He helped get the SHO in production, but it also led to his retirement because Ford lost tons of money with the SHO, but they regained it from the Lincoln LS, which is the "new" SHO, in terms of class.

Do you mean to tell me that the V8 is more Yamaha than the V6?

I know the V8 is a Ford short block with Yamaha heads.

With all due repect your version of the V6 is contrary to all that I've heard.

Hope you have better luck than I did. You will pay around 9-11 bucks per shim at you local or internet motor cycle shop. I even contacted the company that man. the shims to become a dealer and made arrangements to have them drop shipped from a cycle.com and they still couldn't compete with 4.50 that is available from the sho speacilty shops. If you can contact SHOMAN94 he has offered to sell shims for 12 bucks for a pack of 5. Don't know if still is doing it or not.

I spent a little time with my nose in books at yammaha dealer, The only common thread in valve train components was that the valve stem shared the same diameter(.235) with a royal star v-twin, I am not privy to any other valve dimenions. The dealer I dealt with was not very helpful. most parts won't be on hand to inspect, special order. It would surely cost more at the yammaha dealer than ford or other resources. I was searching for stem seal retro fit.
