to lower underhood temps.
Today was day 1.
I noticed a 15 deg. F drop in temps.
If the temps get way up (sitting at idle/ stop and go), a short mild sprint down the road cools things off quickly and nicely.

Highway: 125 deg. stock
110 deg. cowl
Stop and go: 140-155 deg stock
125-140 deg. cowl

Normally, in heavy stop and go traffic, the temp readout would read "HIGH" (it wouldn't read above 159 degrees). Today in heavy stop and go, it stayed well below that.

LOOKS FRICKIN'''' awesome.

I always wanted a black gen 3, still love my red one, but when I graduate, december, I will be getting a black one.

Oh, wow. Im like a little schoolgirl. Geeze. That is sooooo cool.

Any chance on getting a picture from the side, Im interested in how it looks from that angle.

The carbon fiber isnt painted, right?

I love that too, from a distance away it probably looks stock, then up close, its like, wow, holy mosses, thats carbon fiber.

Well that does it, better start saving my coin for a cf cowl hood.

Take care.

sweet ride. Want to sell it in six months?

Ha ha.

Nice! That hood is actually very subtle in styling and fits the car's lines very nicely. :thumb:

I'm wondering if you should look into swapping the driver side wiper arm w/ the passenger side. It seems that the air deflector might no longer be needed on the driver side.

You guys are really making me consider getting one. The underhood temps are just ridiculous on these GenIII's. Maybe the rear coils will last longer now.

I gotta say, it looks schweeet! :thumb: I didn't follow this GB, but were these hoods custom made, or are they a stock item?

Also, how do you think this hood affects aerodynamics?

 thanks for the compliments.
Get this: This morning, I get in my car to go to work. Ambient temp is 67 deg. F. The underhood temp is 83 before I start the car in my garage. (Temp sensor is placed on top of the maf tube) I drive 15 miles to work (all highway), the underhood temp stayed at 81-83 degrees the whole time!! I would have gotten ~105 deg. F with the stock hood.
I am optimistcally thinking this is keeping the tranny temps down as well. Yesterday, it didn't get above 180 deg. while I was driving around town running errands. I'm thinking it MIGHT have normally read 195 deg...

Wess, the hoods were made from a mold the manufacturer designed. Contact Alex... he will gladly set you up.

Marty, this hood fits UNBELIEVABLY well... I have no complaints  I did have to lower the latch that is attached to the rad. support...

Mr. SHO, I was thinking the same thing :)

Brian, you are correct. The hood is NOT painted.
Here is a pic from the side:

Why paint a CF hood?

lol

Sal

last time I was at the c/f shop they still had that modified stock hood that was used to make the molds... they said it was for sale if anyone wanted, then you can paint it and say you have a custom hood?? ;)

Hey David, where did you get those neat Yamaha emblems and what did you use to black out your headlight trim?

Wow....looks good!!! I bet that cf hood would have held up better then the stock hood to the golf ball sized hail that my SHO just saw :frown:

Marty, I got the yamaha badges off ebay. The headlight trim was done the same time and with the same material as the windshield banner (vinyl). I got the idea from Paul (SHOZ123) :thumb:

Greg, you think so? I'd guess that if hail was to damage a CF hood, it would utterly DESTROY it. I don't know how durable they are. I wouldn't think they would dent... but rather crack. ?????

Thanks Terry :)

Thanks again for all the compliments

YOur car looks great with the new hood on
I love mine as well and, all the other gen3s I've seen with the new hood on. They all look great. It would be something if we could all get together someday for some pics :dribble:

As far as the fit. When Alex and Iwent to put it on my car w had a small fitment issue on one side. We got to a point where ew decided to lower the brackets also, but they were just about all the way anyways, so ALex drilled out the holes a little more to lower it some more. But it didn't help to much. So, since I wasn't leaving without the hood, I suggested to put the hood pins in. Cause the bad fittment was on the front passenger conrner. And with a pin right their it holds it down nice and gives a perfect fit. And with the pins in now, I glad I decide to do it cause now I like the look of the pins.
But ALex wanted to make sure it fit perfect too before I left.

I would think that the cf hood would stand up much better to hail then the steel hoods on our cars...but unlike our steel hoods which will dent...i don't think carbon fiber will give and as u said crack instead. But I think the cracking point is far from what hail could do.
