If the car starts and runs to high (3k+ rpms) then stutters and dies, you have a vacuum leak, and this could be it. That's what it was on my 89. The PO had taken apart the intake and put it together without using a couple of gaskets. It was a mess. I put the gaskets in and it ran like a champ after sitting for four years. If the car runs fine, no vacuum leaks there.

Heres what you should have in order.

Plenum-gasket-metal plates (which are the horns)- gasket-butterflies.

If you have Big bore butterflies (modification) , then the horns are ditched and all you have between the butterflies and the plenum is one gasket.

There should be no gaps and shouldn't be able to put anything in there. I would double check that the bolts are tight if you're certain that you have the correct number of gaskets installed for your application.
