I'm having a problem finding a power steering pump pulley for my 3.2. The pulley wobbles when the vehicle is running. I tried the auto parts store, and they tell me it's a dealer item only. I call my local Ford dealer, and was told the power steering pump and pulley is obsolete for the 2nd. generation SHO.

So now I go to the junk yard and the guy behind the counter tells me they don't have any SHO's my year right now (1995), but the Crown Vic pulley will fit with no problems. I don't think a Crown Vic pulley will fit my vehicle, so I need help finding a P/S pump or the pulley from the pump.

Thanks.

Its either loose , or someone installed the lock washer between the pulley and the pump.

Double check that before ordering a new one , BTW I think I may have that in my box-o-junk.

Yes, definitely try to tighten it before you go trying to replace it. Jam the pulley up with a big ol' screwdriver in one of the holes and get (I think) a 12mm socket on the nut in the center.

A PS pulley from any year SHO (as long as it has the same tranny) will work.

Just went through this with my 94ATX. The bolt that holds the pulley on broke off, leaving me no choice but to replace the entire pump/pulley. A $400 job!

I would have attempted it myself, but it was already winter, so I bit the bullet....... hard!!!

If i were you i wouldn't drive her to much until you can find time to fix the pulley/ pump. You could have your serpintine belt pop off, and then you'll be really ******! (don't ask me how i know)

As Phoenix said, I have also seen them wobble because some nut decided to put the lockwasher on before the pulley....

Do you have the pulley off ?

Look for a part number on the pulley or the power steering pump. It's an engineering number, and with that I can trace it to find all applications the part was used on. I'll also be able to find any existing NOS pulleys/pumps, if any are still available through a dealer.

It's been posted here before, that the ATX power steering pump pulley is an equivalent under-drive pulley for the MTX pump. However, Ford lists the same power steering pump for both the ATX and MTX, but different part numbers for the pulley. So . . . .

Anyone have any hard-numbers for the two pulleys - you know, diameters and the like ?

When you get the pulley from RCM, can you post the engineering numbers from your old pulley and the replacement (provided they're not the same) ?

Thanks!

Well, . . . I had some follow-up information, . . . but it was lost in the one-week hiatis (sp?) and I've long since forgotten what it was, where I found it, or why it was relavent . . . .

Oh, and modding is a problem ?

Storm-Chaser, I'm sorry, but I haven't been on SF since Feb 02, so I'm just seeing your post inquiring about the engineering numbers from my old pulley. I can call the shop that did the work, to see if they still have it.

That would be great !

I was told that it only has a Yamaha reference number:

KOA --- 3300 (MTX)

KOB --- 3300 (ATX)

I forget what the middle three letters/digits were . . . .

An engineering number will likely be similar to the below numbers, and end in either a single or double letter (eg. -AA).

E9DU-3A733-?? (MTX)

F3DU-3A733-?? (ATX)

I know this thread is getting into the details of the different pulleys, but I just need to know whether the pulley can be removed by taking out that center bolt, with the pump still in the car.

My friend and I were working on replacing the high pressure line in his '92, and couldn't finish, so he just left the line in the engine bay. Well, his dad had to move it, and started it, so now the line is jammed between the pulley and the pump, and we're gonna need to get it out.

And on a related note, I found that my P/S is what keeps killing my belts...(90 3.0)...the pully is slightly offset from the other, and with a VERY bad Rear MM, well...Question is, would the pump have moved or is it just the pully? I haven't been able to crawl under there to look cause it won't quit RAINING!!!

Yes, the PS pump pulley can be removed with the center nut. You'll just need to keep the pulley from spinning with a strap wrench or screwdriver through one of the holes.
