wirering up the dash button to control aftermarket head unit

i have two thoughts on this
1 to wire it directly to the radio, may require sending it to a pioneer shop to have it done and probably will void any warranty and be expensive.

2 rewire a IR remote and mount it in the center console may have to use a few remotes to figure it out but would not void any warranties but have to find a way to get the voltage down

so any one have any adice or idea to help in this thought process.

Crutchfield makes an adapter that allows you to use it, as long as your aftermatket deck has a remote. On my '95 I have a Kenwood cd receiver, and have a fully functioning MEM, VOL, and SEEK controls up on the dash. Its about $60 I think and you can program what you want it to do. I have the MEM set to work the same way it does on the stock radio, VOLUME controls volume, and SEEK controls the source button (switching between radio, CD, CD Changer, and Sirius Satellite radio).

I have a new head unit coming in today, and I am going to look into this a little bit. The main use I would have is just the use of the volume button.
Essentially, if you headunit has a remote, you could use that or a small cheapo programmable universal remote, and just solder the wires to the circuit board. Like soldering any circuit board, just be careful not to burn it out. Also, you would have to place it just under the dash so you could replace batteries if needed, most IR remotes last a while though.

you could also rig up a zener circuit. here's a simple how-to.
