Had an idea some might consider insane. I have to travel/patrol a lot of dirt roads and I am sick and tired of replacing my windshield every year. I thought about using bulletproof glass. I had heard about the problem with the instaclear windshields on the Crown Vics (radar gun won't work) and don't want to end up doing something equally bizarre. Are there any other alternatives? Thanks!

Bulletproof glass is much thicker than standard glass. Its not any stronger that regular glass, it just has many more layers of glass and plastic to disapate the energy of the bullet. Its also very high dollar.

I don't see anything wrong with your radar gun not working :)

Do you have a bug deflector on the vehicle? This will help lessen the impacts of road debris. Atleast you'll have less bugs! thumbs_u

I currently have a bug deflector on my red 93 ATX. It looks good and helps keep debris from hitting. Check out my pictures...

Well, many thanks for the advice/ideas. Just received the price quote for the bulletproof glass. You're right. It's way too expensive and it turns out it wouldn't be anymore resistant to stones than normal glass AND it would be even more expensive to replace/fix. Fine. Looks like its bugshield for me.

And I've never pulled over another SHO except to talk to the owner. I do have some scruples. Not many, but some. (lol) Thanks all!

Mr. Redcloud (a.k.a. sitting bull :) ) i would guess that someone sells the "stick on" covering like they do on headlights/visors. You'd have to search but I'd type in winshield protector etc. and you could luck out.good luck

Sitting Bull??? Wrong tribe. Thanks for the idea but I run through too many dirt and unimproved roads to hope that the glue would last very long.
