Looks like I might be tinting my windows before too long. What is the best way to do this? State legal issues are not a factor because I am not going to tint to the max. What is the best tint balance or ratio etc? Any horror stories? I am going to go to the best place in town to have this done if I can figure out who that is. I sure do not want some cheap-ass application.

Thanks,
Scott

Make shure that you use a reputable dealer. See what their warranties are on their workmanship. The type of tint is also a factor a dealer who uses 3M product tint is normally very good.

Good luck in your search! thumbs_u

Thanks SHOFLY...I am curious about those tips....do you have pics to post? I know of two other GENIIIs who are running them. How did you discover the tips? (Also is the 35% all around the best combo using 3M?)

If you need a larger picture just ask.

I have 35% on my front windows, and 20% on the rest of the car. It looks really good, and the law is still followed. I still have yet to be pulled over for that thumbs_u

Look at it this way, if you want to go darker get some of that cling on tint and apply it over your existing tint, instant dark!!

A guy who I used to work for did tinting and he uses Llumar tint, just FYI

good luck

I went legal on the sides and illegal on the back. My rear window is 20%. I figured I could get away with it....and its worked so far.

Makes the side tint look much darker.

I went with 15% all around. The tint shop said that's legal here. I looked into it and it appears there is no set limit. It's up to the discretion of the cop (or judge).

Got the idea on teh tips from a friends Cobra who is running them, also Wuzzer's pictures lead me that way as well. Other dual tips tend to be longer thus have to be cut down and loose their picture appeal. I had mine polished just a bit more before I put them on. I will have pistures posted soon.

My tint was done by a shop in Billerica MA, "Tint King" they do all the goverment cars like the DEA, FBI, and some others out of Boston. They did a great job on mine.

Good luck!!!

Every state is different, but a reputable shop should know the state law and be able to place a small sticker on the bottom of the window stating,"This tint xx.xx% complies with state code annotated ***.xx" and cover you against any fines. In the state of TN you can tint the back windows as dark as you want. ****, you can paint them black if you are so inclined. The only windows that are regulated are the driver and pass. windows and winshield, which can be tinted up to 6" from the top.

I have mine 15% all around also.

I love the look, it keeps the heat out, and since I'm in the southern US I need that.

It's not legal, but I have yet to be questioned for it. I know for the most part, states will let you do the back windows as you see fit as long as the fronts are either un-tinted or lighter than 35%. To me, 35% isn't much at all.

I have Llumar tint on my car, on my previous Ranger, the Llumar tint was on there for 7 years and still looked like new.

One suggestion. If your tint is dark, especially if it is illegal, and you are stopped by the police, give that officer the courtesy of rolling down the window prior to his approach to your vehicle. If they can see you clearly, they will most likely not even notice the tint.
