I hve been trying to get the rear windows out of my car without breaking them and haven't had much success so far. Is there a certain tool you use to separate the window from the glue? Please help! Thanks.

Are you talking about the rear door glass, quarter glass, or the rear glass with the defrost on the back?

If you mean the small quarter windows, remove the plastic trim on the inside. Very carefully, the attaching points like to break instead of pull out. That exposes 4 nuts,(well, maybe just 3) remove those. The window and outer trim are held in by a soft stretchable glue (at least they were on the 93 I am stripping) so just pry real slow, kind of like peeling a label off something. You may need to push a putty knife into the glue from the inside to seperate the glue. The trick is to go slow, gentle pressure and allow the glue to stretch.

Hey Perry. Are the GenI and GenII quarter glass interchangeable? I'm looking for some better looking (black trim)ones. Does heat help with loosening the glue?

To be honest I am talking about all the glass in the car. I just haven't gotten past the rear window and the rear quarters yet! pjtoledo, does the trim on the rear quarters come off without breaking while the window is still attached to the car? I didn't see any nuts is why just the tabs an the back side that were prone to breaking. I will give it another go tonight hopefully with more results. Thanks.

The rear quarter glass and the outer trim is all one piece. Removal without damaging the glass and the outer trim is difficult to say the least.

Well, I managed to shatter the window I was working on! I had it about 3/4 of the way out and it decided it had had enough. Oh well, I have two more tries for that side. I may be able to borrow a friends electric window knife though so hopefully that helps. If I mess it up with that one though, I am calling a glass shop and having them do it. Thanks for all the help guys.

I saw a post of Perry's before about using metal (like piano) wire to remove the quarter glass. I recall hearing this from the glass shop guys also. Use eye protection.

Busted the window??? You must be pulling awfully hard! I took my windows out of my car to tint them. You have to drill out the aluminum pop rivits. Use a center punch to push out the pin in the center of the rivet and then use a large drill bit to drill the front of the rivet away, then push the rest out the back. The window will lift right out. (The rivets go through holes in the glass. Foreign cars, especially Nissan use glued on clips with a bolt hole on the clip) I used bolts to put mine back in. In the rear door there are three rivets and the one rivet near the rear of the car I could not get a bolt in because I couldn't get my hand in there to hold the bolt and tighten the nut so I left it out.

You could also go to a body shop and have them re-pop rivet them back in.

Yeah, the window I broke was actually the small one right behind the rear door. I got the two rear windows out today though, plus all the trim from around all four doors. Thankfully I didn't bend any of the chrome strips! I will get some wire this weekend and have my friend help me with the rear 3 windows on both cars. Thanks again guys. The 90 project is well under way!
