Winding sound from driver's side???

Here's a new one.

I've owned 3 gen II's and have never come across this. I

On the driver's side of the motor, at about the area below and to the left of the throttle body (if you're looking directly into the TB), near the airbox or somewhere in that area...there's an intermittent fast-winding type of noise. It sounds like an electric motor going bad, and just spinning out of control at RPM's higher than it was designed to handle??

I don't think it's a vacuum leak, but I guess it could be since they could sound similar.

Are there any electrical motors near the end of the engine compartment that could go bad?

Has anybody experience anything similar like this before, from that part of the engine compartment?

IAC was just replaced. Even if it were going bad already, I don't think the IAC has a mechanism inside that would cause a high-winding sound.

It's coming more from the area right below the coil pack, but probably closer to the firewall.
