ok i have a 89 with about 90k, the water pump went on fine. but before i put back on my accessories wanted to make sure i had the timing right. so i started her up. everything was good but a loud whining sound coming from the timing belt. i losened her up a lil and the sound went away. i put back on the idler pullies and timing cover and called it a night. now when i try to start it, it will turn over but no fire. i did the paper clip eec test and got 11 meaning it cant find any problems. im stumped now. i didn't replace the cps, but it did start a few times after i replaced the water pump.

To check for spark, pull a plug wires, stick the end of a flathead screwdriver in it, and rest it on the radiator support. Have someone try to crank the car. You should see the spark arc from the screwdriver to the radiator support.

I would never replace the water pump without doing the crank sensor and timing belt. It is virtually impossible not to flood the crank sensor when removing the pump.

Also, check your grounds. If you just removed the crossover tube on the intake, make sure the two 12mm bolts that attach it to the rest of the intake are tight. Those two bolts are what the DIS relies on for ground. Good luck sir. :)
