I really like the design of the ATX center console compared to the MTX. Can an ATX console be swapped into the 5-speeds?

Randy the ATXs have a kickass storage bin instead of that fold down contraption. Also the ATX console has a cupholder that you can actually reach located directly behind the shifter assembly. I'll see if I can find a pic.

I think you are a little confused. The console that you are refering to came in all SHOs from 93-95. The part that the shift lever sticks through is different between MTX and ATX, but the rest of the console including the storage bin, are the same between the two. As far as modding an ATX piece to fit the MTX it can probably be done, but it would require removeing the recessed walls around the hole for the gear selector, and making the hole bigger to allow for the movement of the shift lever on the MTX. Try calling dealers and seeing if they have any or the MTX console pieces, I think they might be discontinued, but when I bought mine the cost was about $100, but that was with a discount.

So an MTX console from a 93-95 looks almost identical to the ATX consoles? I picked up a console out of a 93 MTX and it matches my ATX one in my 93. Can't believe I never knew that, but you learn something new everyday. Bottom line is I can get rid of that garbage gen 1 setup. Thanks all. thumbs_u

I put the newer style console in my old 92. The gen 1 console brackets are not the same as the newer console brackets. I had to fab some up out of sheet AL. It worked but wasn't as stable as the factory brackets. The storage bin bracket is probably the most important one to get right. Good luck with it.
