I'm a new poster, long time reader. First Question you may ask is Why? Well, because I have the parts. Now, I don't ever want to see any SHO go to the 'yard', but the parts car is trashed. I've owned several Taurii/SHOs/sables since '93. Current daily is a '90, as you may have guessed. I can elaborate more on my SHO passion in a different forum if anyone is interested. I've searched the forums (and found a lot of great info, always), but not specifically for what I would like to do. So, here is the question: Will the ATX out of a '93 SHO fit in and work in a '91 3.8L wagon (ya, I know, wagon)?
I have read in some forums that the bell housing pattern is different. That the stall speed on the converter is different. That the PCM may be different. That the depth of the pans is different. etc. etc. My Chiltons says that the RH half shaft is .110" longer on the SHO (probably due to where the knuckle is in relation to the trans, being that the sub-frame is different because of the Yamaha engine).
Here is what I know so far: '93 SHO-AX4S shift pattern-P,R,N,D,2,1; '91 SLO-AXOD-E shift pattern-P,R,N,OD,D,1. Main questions are: Will the bell housing bolt up? Will the TC bolt to the flywheel? Are the sensors all the same plug-ins? and will the '91 PCM 'manage' the trans correctly? And yes, I will put a good cooler on it.
There are a lot of ATX gurus' on this form, I hope they can chime in!
p.s. I was originally going to make a sleeper out of the wagon with the whole shebang forward of the A pillars, but I just don't have the time. So, with the spare 3.2L engine, and all the goodies I salvaged off my '94 MTX (hit hard in the rear, now gone) will make a good winter project for the '90.
Thanks in advance for any help!

WOW 44 hits, almost a week, and no bites?
I hope I didn't tick you all off with the thread title.
I think I read all the ATX threads with the search.
Where are all the gurus'? or does nobody really know??

it should work just fine, you could technically put a slo trans into a SHO atx, but it would never hold up to the engine. I would think in your case it would work just fine.

Bump. Yep, still looking for more technical information on this. This is quite a bit of work, not that I'm afraid of it, just still on the 'to do list'. "should work just fine" is not cutting it, but thanks for the encouragement Minnesho!

It's a lot of work to splice one motor into another wiring harness. I'd suggest swapping in the whole kit; engine, tranny, subframe, wiring, and ECU. Then, you only need to worry about splicing ABS and EATC. ABS and EATC are probably a match if the SLO chassis is in the same version run as the ECU for those parts. Otherwise, you need to start getting electrical charts for both cars.

anything is possible with money and the labor...
actually the atx subframe is the same mounting and all for the SHOs and GLs atx etc.
the tq converter should bolt up to the flexplate if not switch them...
the SHO and duri engines do have a big difference in bell housing pattern... i attempted the mtx SHO trans on a 3.8 GL before and it wouldnt line up i checked the swap books they have at junkyards.
the starter is up a little higher on the GL trans so if you tried to put it on there it would hit where the oil filter is on the SHO engine.
and yes the PCM would have a problem with the overdrive the rest should shift fine but when you put it in over drive without hard wiring it up in a special manor it wouldnt work.
