The trunk on the gen 1 is about 3 inches larger, but overall it looks like a gen 2 spoiler may work. Just may not look too good. Any advice?

Unfortunately not... so I'm told. However, I remember someone on this board explaining that by using washers, it can be done. ( I assume to makeup for the difference in the contour).

I know that I could use spacers to mount it, more concerned about how it would look; being the contour of the spoiler wouldn’t hug the rear quarter panels. Anybody ever seen a gen 2 spoiler on a gen 1?

Nope, it would look really wierd if it did. For the trunk on the 92-95s is more "bowed" than the 86-91s.
