I was driving home from work, and pulled into a MCdonalds to get breakfast via the "drive thru".... As I'm sitting there next to the building, my ears notice the sound of engine tapping "Pretty loud" along with the Idle RPM. I said to myself ( That has to be the guy in the POS truck behind me!!)

I pull off, and the sound goes away ( I thought).... I get back to my house, and pull into the driveway and there the loud tapping sound is again!! I get out in utter shock that it WAS my car, and pop the hood for inspection. The tapping almost sounded like it was up near the fans, but it wasn't. It seemed to be coming from the front of the engine, below the manifold (Nearest the front spark plugs). If I put my hand on the very front of the manifold, I could feel something banging every time the tap hit.... I checked all fluids, and they were right where they were supposed to be. The only thing I have done recently to my engine is run a can of "Seafoam" through the crankcase, and then an oil change shortly after.

Well..... I shut the SHO down, and went inside. After about 5 hours sleep I went outside to check it again. I started it up, and it did (NOTHING!!). As if the sound had never happened, or was there in the first place :squint:

It has been bad sound free for the past day or so..................

The car has had a slight tapping going on in the same area while driving the past couple weeks, but nothing as loud as that was... Now there is no tapping sound whatsoever!! It actually is quieter, and running better than before

I called Steve (ProjectSHO89), and discussed this with him... I actually let him hear the loud tapping via phone, and we were both trying to figure out what the heck it was!! He said "It didn't sound good..."

He was nice enough to offer to stop by and check it out with his mechanics stethescope, but there was no point because the mystery sound just flat out went away!! We both agreed that it seemed that maybe there was some temporary oil starvation going on, therefore making it tap like that...

* Just thought I'd run this by everyone, and see what their thoughts were on what may have happened?

I'm with the oil starvation theory, my dad has a B2200 that will do that when it's cold out, or after I run it hard ;)
