I have a 1995 atx and the car was running perfectly fine until we got some snow. The car was driven in the snow then parked. Didn't hit anything at all or damage anything. I started the car the next day and the car started to idle very funny. The rpm's would be at 1k then drop to 800 and keep going up and down continuously causing the car to shake rough. I figured I had got some snow into my exhaust or something so I gave it some gas to clear them out and the cars secondaries won't seem to open up and the car has barely any power. The cars right exhaust tip is making a funny chugging noise. It makes the noise at idle but makes it even worse when applying gas. Any idea on what this could possibly be? The car went for an oil change a couple of days ago and the mechanic said my k&n air filter was clogged so I figured the problems were coming from the filter being clogged so I replaced it and still the same problem is occuring but the idle only drops a very little now. I still have that chugging sound coming from the exhaust, too. There is also a bit of hesitation from when I step on the gas the car doesn't respond right away. Any help would be highly appreciated, I need to get this problem fixed asap considering I drive it daily.

I just went outside really quick and disconnected the maf sensor to see if that could be a problem. The car idled a lot better with it disconnected and it seems that the exhaust noise has gone away. I won't be able to tell for sure until tomorrow when I disconnect the maf and take a ride. I couldn't right this minute due to heavy street parking and someone would take my spot, lol. Could the chugging exhaust noise and loopy idle happen due to the clogged maf?

Wow. I thought I was the only one who worked on cars at 12:53 AM:nut:
Yes a clogged MAF could cause those symptoms.

I disconnected the maf this morning and took the car for a ride the car still has the chugging noise coming from the exhaust. I only get the chugging noise coming out of the drivers side muffler during acceleration. Could this be because that catalytic converter is clogged? I have replaced the mufflers on this car with flowmaster 40 series mufflers but the cats are still stock with about 81k on them. The flowmasters have been installed for about 15k. Im thinking of taking the car by my exhaust shop today and having them check the cats. Let me know if this sounds correct. Im just guessing that 1 of the cats has gone bad causing only one of the mufflers to have this problem. Im not to educated with the whole how the exhaust system works on the car. Anybody else know anything that could do this let me know.

When I looked underneath the car after driving it home from work this morning for after about 20 mins of traffic driving the whole exhaust system seemed to be shaking violently. Is this also a symptom of clogged cats?

Well I took off the maf and cleaned it and the idle got a little bit better. Then I thought to look into the plug wells for oil considering I got an oil change last week and that is when the problem started happening. So I look at the plug wells and of course oil in the first and second to your left right above where the oil cap is. I had the oil blasted out with an air tool, turned the car on and perfect idle again. You can't even tell the car is running and the exhaust noise went away. Problem fixed thank god, I'm just going to get some new plugs and wires. Thank you everybody for your help..

The SHOs fast as **** again and yes it's an atx.

That's the IAC. Although when mine went bad, the car would idle all of 30 secs before it died.
