Wierd antenna problem

Hello,

I recently replaced my antenna on my 93 SHO, I managed to get it in all the way, so right now its fully retracted.

However, when I turn the car on, it doesn’t always come up, even with the radio on. I managed to get it working once to where it went up when the radio was turned on, and down when the radio was turned off. However it works about 5% of the time, when it doesn’t move, I don't hear the motor running, so its not trying to do anything.

Other than that, it seems to extend and retract fine, when it actually does it, which about once in a blue moon.

The car has been sitting for a while (awaiting a transmission swap), but the battery is charged.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have the opposite problem, stays up while motor runs and only works right about 5-10% of the time. Sorry no fix suggestion, but I'd be interested too. This is also the first car I have had with a retractable antenna so I have no clue how they work.

a lot fo that stuff is dependent on teh deck you ahve installed. for insnatace, my cousin's SHO antenna only goes up whent eh radio is on, but as soon as you switch to CD mode it goes down, whiel mine stays up no matter what mode i'm in, as long as teh deck is on. SO it may be a deck problem.

I agree, I think a lot depends on how the circuit is powered.

Here's how I understand the power antenna circuit to work (not 100% positive on this): The wire from the deck that is used to power the antenna circuit is supposed to be one with battery (B+) power that is live when the deck is on, and not live when the deck is off. So, when the power antenna module is receiving B+ power from this wire, it "remembers" what position (up/down) the antenna is in and operates the motor (or leaves it alone) in order to make sure the antenna is in the up position.

Same sequence of events occurs when the B+ power source is removed (i.e., the deck is shut off) only this time the module operates the motor (or leaves it alone) to insure the antenna is down.

So if your antenna is going up and down (or fails to do so) at the wrong times, either there is something wrong with how the circuit is being powered, there is an intermittent short or open in the circuit somewhere, or the module itself is bad.
