I was replacing my fuel injectors and figured it would be wise to change the sensor even though it wasnt bad. I went to pull the plug off and the thing disintegrated. I barely touched it. Also discovered that the conduit on the injector wires was super brittle.

Preventative Maintenance folks, thats what its about.

How did you fix the conduit wire on the injector harness? I assume your talking about the one that grounds to the block in the valley. When I had my injectors apart I noticed this problem also, but wasn't sure how to safely fix it.

What conduit are you talking about? The plastic split tube that is taped onto the wires?

Any time you want to sell it back, let me know.

I've seen that before, in a parts car. I just assumed someone did it when they pulled the fuel rails.

Gotta call the stuff what it really is per Tom: the black split wire that you wrap wires in...the wires that were needing it were the 2 injector wires that ran to each plug for the injector.

The 3 ground wires to the block had dried out as well, but those didnt have anything on them except the regular wire coating. I left those alone.

"Split wire loom" is the more proper term for the plastic sheath.

At least it's not Kapton wire insulation, the stuff that makes airplanes explode.

Besides being messy, is there a functional issue with the loom cracking and drying out?

Wow, that sensor looks to have attended the School of Hard... Knocks.

Where is the knock sensor located and how do you get to it?

It's in the valley underneath the fuel rails and the coolant manifold to water pump tube. Not the easiest sensor to get at.

Not to mention the socket to get it out. Don't quote me on this, but I believe it is 30mm, but I know for SURE you will need a deep well socket.

1 1/8 inch socket....its easy to get out if you busted it like I did.

Remove intake....relieve pressure to fuel rail so that you dont get gas everywhere, remove bolts that secure the fuel rail, remove fuel injectors, there underneath in all its glory lies the sacred knock sensor.
