why can't i just leave stuff alone?? shifter spinning.

so today i completely *****'d my shifter.

my car suffers from a broken tranny boss where the stabilizer rod bolts up. I fabricated a fix using some bolts, some washers and a cut down intake support bracket. It works....just needs to be tightened back down from time to time.

So today I monkied under the car and snugged it back down. go for a test spin, and the fruckin thing is now an absolute nightmare to get into 2nd, 4th or reverse. once in those gears, the shifter has to be held in place less it pop into nuetral.

as if that wasn't bad enough, the god-forsaken axial spin bushing (or whatever the **** it's called) is now cracked, allowing the shift handle to spin rather freely, making it even harder to get into gear.

does anyone have a fix for the now free-spinning shifter handle mod? the rest i'm sure i could adjust out, but i can't drive my car around in 1st and 3rd gears all the time. I saw scott (spdatt) had a write-up on how to fix this issue, but sadly the pics are AWOL, and his description has left my tired mind spinning as freely as my shifter. lend a hand, ya'll.

Not sure what you mean but the axial spin bushing. If you are talking about the clevis swivel where the shifter goes into the trans, shosounce has a repair kit, or it can be repaired by diassembling it and replacing the washers ect. Then use bolts in place of the rods. Tighten the bolts to your desired tension. If its the ball/socket at the end of the shifter, shonut has those.

Of course this is all for the rod shifter.....if you have a cable one then I am clueless. Good Luck.

neither....it's the plastic yoke on the shift handle that prevents it from spinning in your hand when you go to shift gears.

Not sure then. I havent taken my shifter apart yet to rebuild it. Kind of a shot in the dark since I dont know what it looks like, but is there a way to install a set screw or something in it to keep it from spinning? Do you have a pic so I could get a better look?

only way i've ever heard of fixing it was to acquire a new shifter assembly

anywho, timbo's got a shifter for me, so until I can lighten his stash I used a creative combination of superglue and zip-ties to hold everything together, and thus far it's holding...time will tell.

zip-ties are awsome. I have a couple holding my brake bias valve open.
