Ok, so my MTX has been acting up really bad in a number of ways the past couple months. The biggest problem I'm having is a stuttering problem under steady throttle, it doesn't seem to happen at any one particular point it can be part-throttle or WOT and just randomly it'll stumble really bad as if the car shut off for a split second. I recently did the IAB and plugs/wires and after doing the plugs/wires, the stuttering stopped, but it is coming back again only a month later, and I dont see how the plugs/wires could be bad already. There was no oil in the plug wells, just a really really small amount in 1-2 of the back plug wells but not enough to even touch the plug boot. The next problem is that for some reason, every now and then my car wont want to start at all. It'll just sit there cranking and cranking and while Im cranking it, I'll see black smoke pouring out my tailpipes. Eventually it'll turn over and smoke black smoke for a second after startup but then it runs pretty much ok. The car definitely smells like its running rich, no idea why it would be doing that. 99% of the sensors on the car are new within the last 40k miles except the CID and CPS. I ran the codes and got these:
211-PIP Circuit Fault
214-CID Circuit Failure
528-can't find this code anywhere
537-Can't find this one either
542-Fuel pump secondary circuit failure

Any ideas?? This car is driving me nuts!!

The 211 (PIP crankshaft postion sensor signal) and 214 (CID camshaft postion sensor signal) codes indicate a problem with the DIS ignition system. It's possible that both sensors are shot, but you also have to think seriously about the DIS module, since it's "common" to both.

Damn, thats expensive too. I guess I'll try to swap the DIS from my ATX over and see what happens.

well, I do have a PRO-M MAF which does throw a Check Engine Light every now and then but that's no big deal as far as I know.

clean the MAF... just for good measure...

check your spout connectors... just to be sure...

but it does sound like the DIS is the problem maker....

check your grounds as well...

Yes, definetly clean your MAF first. Then I would probably start looking at the CID. Those symptoms sound similar to mine and others when our CIDs have gone bad. Plust its only about $35 and fairly easy to change.

What about timing belt, is it new? How many miles? Do the front 60k.....

Check your starter, mine was a marvel all by itself, that it could turn the engine over... It was giving me poor starts. The rear case had seperated significantly from the front casing.

Car is on its 3rd starter, the newest one being only about a year old. I dont think this is a starter prob. though.

do you lose the tach signal sometimes? like the car is running, but tach reads zero? then that will tell you right there, and CID (cam) sensor is malfunctioning. if you replace it and the prob is not fixed, consider it preventative maintenance!

Tach always works, at this point I'm thinking it has to be either the DIS or CPS I have NO clue what else it could be. Everything else is new CID, plugs, wires, IAB valve, MAF is fine, Taking the LPM out does nothing. God I just want to shoot this car sometimes!!

Have you seen the posts by Sinistersho? He's having his cps swapped out because of a no start issue. What's up with the black gen 2's lately??

I remember hearing something about a DIS ground wire that was causing problems. If you just did your plugs/wires, do you remember hooking this ground back up to the intake?

Yeah that ground is hooked up, not to where it was before because I lost the bolt that goes into the intake there, but its hooked up to a good ground.
