Flex question; not SHO but I didn't get any response on Flex Boards.

I had my Ecoboost Flex in for service. It was feeling a little sluggish so the dealer did a flash upgrade of the PCM and inspected the sparkplugs according to the plug TSB.

Now when taking off on my residential street or in a parking lot, I have a whirling sound (not whistle) that sounds like it is coming from turbos. Dealer recognizes sound is there but doesn't know why. They have called the Ford Hotline and they want them to take the timing chain cover off! It clearly sounds like turbos because the sound doesn't correspond to RPM's, you can still hear it when you let off gas. Sound is more prevalent when motor or air is cold. Car is still running good; no CEL's.

Suggestions?

11-5-3 was the TSB for the PCM Flash. Wish they could reset back to the calibration before the flash to see if it the noise would go away.

YOu know it is a non-turbo but my wifes V6 Explorer "whirs" on take off and is louder when it is cold. I cant find it, and I havent taken it in b/c it is out of warranty. Probably not the same cause as the power plants are completely different, but same symptom.

I would be interested to know what yours ends up being.

The whir on the Explorer is probably the fan clutch, and that's normal. I'm guessing that it probably only does this for about 1/10 mile of driving? My 2004 Mountaineer and 2004 Aviator also make that noise.

11-5-6 was the TSB for transmission issue and now it is 11-8-21... new version for the same issue.

11-5-3 is the PCM flash that they did for me, not 11-5-6.

I asked the dealer if we could put the PCM back to the previous flash to see if the whirl went away. They told me that couldn't be done. Other think I also noticed is I hear the waste gate relief more. At least that's what I think it is.
