One of my teachers told me that discount tire will match prices from tire rack, even if they dont carry that tire, theyll get it, and match the price.

I work at Sears Auto Center, and we will match any competitors price, but for internet quotes, we will match the price per tire + $15/tire for shipping. So depending on the shipping cost from the website you order from, that might be a possibility.

Most shops that install internet-purchased tires of the brands that they sell are more than happy to charge you the extra cash to service them should they get damaged. The NTB abnd Firestone/Bridgestone shops I have used for installations have always repaired flats at no charge. I didn't think anyone spent that extra cash for the road hazard warranty. Easy money for the shops.

Of the 5 vehicles I have owned and literally (had to calculate this one) just a bit more than 600k miles, I have only had 3 flats, and those were off-road 4x4 related.

I just dont get it. I know that there are design and manufacturing issues, but those are very few and far between. How the heck do you let a tire get so bad to allow a blow-out

Checking tire condition is a simple thing. shrug

Blowouts are one thing, but anybody can run over a nail or screw.

Once when I was in college my girlfriend punctured a sidewall on the island while pulling into a gas station. Just a wee bit close to that curb. Anyways, that's one way to get a blow out. I put the spare on for her and drove the car to Costco where she had bought the tires. Free replacement under the standard road hazard plan that you are forced to get when Costco mounts and balances the tires. Often those road hazard plans aren't an option, they're included in the mounting and balancing. But I wouldn't expect many shops to include those plans if you don't buy the tires from them.

Won't stop me from buying my tires from tirerack. I can fix flats myself with the self-vulcanizing rubber strip/plugs. The odds of a major tire failure are low enough that if I suffer one of them I'll just eat the price of a new tire. Ultra high performance tires wear out fast enough that it's not like I'm putting something on the car that's going to keep me company for the next 5 years. I go through about a set of tires a year. That one incident is the only time I've ever been able to take advantage of a road hazard warranty and I wasn't even driving the car! All the years where I didn't have a road hazard warranty I didn't need one. I might have *used* one a few times to fix flats, but like I say the strip/plugs work pretty well...I haven't *needed* to get a flat fixed professionaly.

You're single, right? The road hazard warranty should more correctly be labeled "wife ran over another curb" warranty. The wife has killed 3 tires on her minivan in 6 months. 2 were honestly not her fault, picked up nails. The other was when she nailed a very sharp curb.

I have used The Falken ZE-512 on my SHO for the last year or so and love them. Cheap, quiet, good in rain, and good traction....Pretty aggressive looking tread too. And for $81 a piece you can't lose. I got them at my local Sears/NTB where they matched price plus shipping
