From the summit racing website there were more than a few choices for REDLINE ATF. Which one do I want for my ATX?

RED-30104 1 qt., Dexron II/Mercon synthetic automatic transmission fluid ... $8.50

RED-30304 1 qt., synthetic racing automatic transmission fluid ...$7.95

RED-30504 1 qt., synthetic Dexron III/Mercon, meets GL-4 requirements, automatic transmission fluid ...$9.95

RED-30604 1 quart, C-plus, automatic transmission fluid ... $7.95

Ok, now for the tricky question on draining all the fluid:

Drop the tranny pan slowly to drain 6+ quarts of fluid.

Wipe fluid out of hair and eyes.

Replace filter.

Wonder where other 6+ quarts of fluid are.

Realize torque converter has fluid in it.

Post question on shoforum site. How can I safely get all of it out?

Go get a drink from fridge...See that you are all out. Drive wife's care to store since your car is up on jackstands.

Ponder solution.

Ok,......

If I put the pan back on and start the car and let it idle, will that fluid come out of the torque converter and into the pan?

Or, If I disconnect trans cooler line will all the fluid pump out or will I still have to drop the pan again.

OR: never, never, never start car with half full tranny.

I want all redline in the tranny, but I know the old stuff is in their too.

OPTIONS?

Redline is the best..

I would run the Dexron III/Mercon ATF. This is what they recommend for the MTX.

You can call them and ask. They are very helpful and friendly.
www.redlineoil.com for a ph#.

Olympic:

I posted a reply to that thread you mentioned as I was a bit confused as to the procedure. I never got a response, so I never tried it. Give it a looksee and let me know what you think.

OK, I went back a re-read my post and I see where I lost you. When you disconnect the cooler line and start the car, the tranny sucks all the oil out of the pan, pumps it through the tranny and converter and out the cooler line. But once the pan is empty and the tranny sucks in some air, it will stop pumping, just like any normal pump. So now the pan is empty BUT the converter is still full of dirty oil.(at this point you would drop the pan, clean it and replace the filter) Then you add 12 quarts of fresh fluid to the tranny and it will be way over filled, 12q in pan + approx 6q in the converter(dont worry, this wont hurt anything). Then you restart the car and the tranny will begin pumping the fresh fluid through the tranny and converter, pushing the dirty ATF out. Continue pumping until you have 13 quarts in the pail. Then reconnect the cooler line, add the conditioner, run the car and check the fluid level and top it up.

So to summarize, you've added 12 quarts of fresh fluid and pumped out 13 quarts. Only 1 quart is wasted. The first bottle of the flush kit gets pumped out with the old ATF, the conditioner(second bottle) stays in the tranny with the new fluid. I dont do my own flushes but the tranny shop that does them for me uses the Wynn's kit and highly reccommends it. So be sure to follow the instructions on the bottles as I havn't read them myself.
