I ran codes and got the one for the O2 sensor. Since there are two, how do I know which one to replace? Is there one that typically dies first? Are replacements found at Autozone or Advance Auto parts good enough?
I don't know much about the vehicle history so I don't know if either have been replaced in the past.
It is a 94 ATX.

the best bet is to replace them both at the same time....they usually go out pretty close to the same time! at leat that has been my experience!~

Just replace them both. They both seem to go around the same time anyways.

Yes but look at rockauto.com beforehand. Just so you dont get screwed. The Denso's seems to work pretty well among others.. Theres no "bad" brands.

How do I know which ones to get? Are the front and back sensors the same? Do I just buy two of the Denso ones or do I need to get one of those and one other one?

Is rockauto reliable or would it just be easier to spend a few bucks more at autozone just in case something needs to be returned?

rockauto is huge and has top notch service.

But if its only a few bucks , go napa/whatever , remember that you need to pay the shipping (rockauto).

okay. ill look into it. but also, if i buy two sensors that are the same how long should the wire be so they aren't too short? I've noticed that they all have different lengths, anywhere between 10 and 18 inches.

Since you put this thread in the gen 1’s there should only be one set. To answer your question when you ran your diagnostic test it should have said the bank that the oxygen sensor is bad in. If is a gen 2 there are up and down stream oxygen sensors and the test should have said that to. Also for the wires, you should buy the stock length and I agree with the others you should replace both sensors.

Oh, okay. thought it was the right thread...but I have a 94 atx. I ran the codes a few months ago and don't have them in front of me at the moment. I just recall it being a code for the o2 sensor but whatever site I was looking at to tell me what the codes meant didn't specify what one it was. I will just end up replacing both of them, but need to figure out what ones to get...most likely from autozone or advance auto.
Any idea what stock length is or should I just crawl under the car to measure?

The EEC code tells you which sensor is the culprit. See this web site for descriptions.

175-178, 188-192 Front sensor
171-174, 179-183 Rear sensor

The OEM replacement Bosch 15716 with the 15.25 inch connector can be had for $47.99 each from AutoZone/AZ.com. It will require an O2 socket, a universal joint and at least 9" of extensions to change the aft sensor. The front sensor is much easier to access.

Like others said, it's easiest to replace the sensors together anyway. If you want to be sure though, here's a link to a test procedure for the O2 sensors from the Shotimes site.

http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/mod...le=article&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0&sid=87

I noticed some references to a special O2 sensor socket above. That would certainly be convenient but I've had good luck on the SHO with a can of PB blaster and a crescent wrench.

From previous posts, these are the sensor part numbers for the 3.0L and the 3.2L. Anywhere can cross these to Denso.

O2 sensor Bosch 13942 8" long leads, 3 wire for 3.0
O2 sensor Bosch 15718, Denso 2344070 16" long leads, 4 wire for 3.2
O2 sensor Bosch 15716, Denso 2344610 8.5" long leads, 4 wire for 3.2

I recall some past debate about whether the ATX should have one long and one short or two short. Extra lead length is no problem. Do a search.

Rockauto is great for these. 5% discount codes in a sticky, and the Densos are just $31.99. The chance of having to return one is zilch.

An O2 sensor socket is nice to have. They are dirt cheap at Harbor Freight. Be sure to get the right size.

okay, that works, yea i saw that sticky...i'll prob end up ordering from rock auto since i will get both. save like 40 bucks!

they only have the Denso 2344610, not the other one you mentioned. should i just get two of those or do i need to get another kind so it's longer?

They have both in stock. Do a part number search instead of looking it up by application. But I think you will be fine with two of the 2344610's. My MTX did not need the longer lead length in either position. One thing that confused me is that some are labeled "front" in the catalog. Turns out that does not mean front of the engine. It just means it is installed in front of the catalytic converter as opposed to a rear (or downstream) sensor that is installed after the cat. The SHO does not use downstream sensors.

If you want to keep things simple and don't want any headaches, make sure you get the sensors that have the correct oem plugs. This way you don't have to worry about their crazy generic connector and cutting wires to specific lengths.
