Where in the pedal movement/position should the clutch engage? Post clutch job, the adjustment mechanism never 'clicks' or changes anything. My clutch engages near the bottom (pedal almost fully depressed).

How can the adjustment mechanism be fixed or replaced?

From what I have heard and understand, "normal" is for it to engage in the middle of pedal travel. More towards the floor is supposed to indicate problems with the pressure plate, more toward the top is supposed to indicate a problem with the disc.

Ditto what Bizzy said. Almost positive that the clutch engagement should be in the middle of the pedal travel.

For as long as I can remember, the engagement started very near the bottom. The old TOB shows a lot of wear, flat where it should be curved. The old pp fingers are nearly worn through in a wide swath matching the flatened TOB surface.

I suspect this is due to improper tension. Now I need to figure out how to fix or replace the adjustment mechanism.

Very important question for you. When you replaced everything (if you did), did you set the adjusterby PULLING on the pedal. that is when you should hear the clicking from the adjuster. If not, try that and your pedal engagement may come up. When I replaced my clutch I forgot to do that and my pedal was as low as it was before I did the job. Untill I remembered to pull up on the pedal. headbang good luck.

Yeah, I pulled up on the pedal with the old clutch and the new one. The adjuster has never 'clicked' when doing this. :(

I haven't tried working on this yet because the rough shifting due to the improperly installed flywheel dowls took a toll on the shifter stabilizer bar boss. I've been to all kinds of stores, but can't find a Helicoil in the right size- 12mmx1.75. It looks like it will have to be ordered online.

Thanks for the help.

Bank of SHO - hope you used the SHOnut ceramic throwout bearing when you replaced yours. There is a growing body of evidence thatboth finger wear and throwout bearing inner race wear are reduced substantially.

I used the TOB that came with the TZ clutch. I'm getting good at tearing the car apart...unfortunately.

after my clutch job, i found my engagement wasnt like it should have been. so i contortioned myself under the dash and manually released the quadrant and got one more click out if it. no problems since then.

Thanks for the help folks. I finally found a Perma-Coil and fixed the shifter today. I was also able to manually adjust the pedal to make it 'click'. Everything works now. It's been a long time since I drove my car. It feels good.

Sometimes 1st gear is tough to get in while stopped, but it is fine while rolling to a stop.
