I have this oil leak that is leaking down onto the passenger side exhaust pipe. I have taken it to various mechanics and they all say it is the oil pan gasket. So I took it to that shop and paid them to do it, to my surprise it still leaks. So then I took it to another shop and guess what; it still leaks. So I am baffled!!!! It appears to be coming out of the oil pan gasket, so much so that I took it to another shop, told them I had already replaced the gasket twice and they came up with the same conclusion. So now my car is smoking so much from the leak hitting the exhaust that it is undriveable. So if you have any ideas please let me know as I am feeling very frustrated.

Did i mention that I just did a full rebuild on the engine a little over 10 months ago??? doh

Well when it leaked after you got it done the first time did you take it back to the shop and show them? Maybe its coming from the main seal and it APPEARS to be dripping from the gasket?

Maybe it's the oil pump bolt that has been a previous culprit in this regard.

There was a thread a while back in which the bolt was finally found to be the source of the leak (wrong length bolt was used).

If it's not the oil pump bolt, is it dripping from the lower timing belt cover? That would be either the front main crankshaft oil seal (National 710220 $8) or the camshaft seals (set of three: Fel-Pro TCS45870 $15).

Did you remove/replace the oil pump?

It could the the pump-to-block gasket. :(

A while back I swapped pumps and went through what your going through.... and it was the pump to block gasket headbang

That means removing the pan.... again headbang headbang

Could also be your valve cover gasket. I had the same problem. I ended up replacing the valve cover gaskets, cam seals (3), main bearing seal, and the pan gasket. I also replaced the CPS and CID while I was in there. Doesn't leak anymore!

A littel UV dye aned a blacklight can be very useful for finding leaks. Most car parts places have the dyes.
