Anyone - I NEED HELP. My 2 year old daughter has hidden the only set of keys to my '93 SHO, the dealership can only pull key numbers from '96 or newer cars by VIN. I had only one set of keys (I know, pretty stupid) and need to know if anyone knows of any other place I could access the original key code with only the VIN #. All 3 keys are gone, so locksmith charges would be outrageous. Ford dealer will duplicate keys from the 3 for $4 per key, but they say the key number were furnished to the original owner on a plastic tab included with the key!! Any ideas guys - She is sitting in my driveway disabled.

Thanks,

Brian

Well, cheaper than the locksmith route would be to just replace the lock cylinder in the steering column. AutoZone sells a generic one for about $15. That might be the best route and hope that eventually you'll come across the keys your daughter is 'keeping safe' for you!

There's also a full set with door cylinders and ignition cylinder from Ford so that you'll have a single matching key for all (which of course you'll make multiple copies of this time!).

BTW, if by any chance your car is (or has been) financed, the finance company may have a key.

Three keys?Unless you have the safety plastic key,i think you`re stuck. The only thing i can suggest is go to a junkyard, and look for a Gen II with they key`s still in it(it happens ofter). You`ll have to buy and change all locks with those.

Go sign up with AAA. Then call a locksmith to make you a set. AAA will cover that and also any towing/breakdown problems that you might experience in the future. I never leave home without it.

AAA is GOD, it has more than paid for itself with my car problems and with other SHO owners..

The new lock cylinder is a very good idea, my buddy just had to do it in his neon, keep the old lock cylinder so when she lets you have the keys back you can turn everything back over to original ignition.

Good luck man!

HaHaHa. I laugh at all of you. My lock cylinder is so worn, I can start my car without the keys in the ignition. If only you guys were as cool as me (actually, I'm a little scared. I ripped out my alarm/pdl actuator last week, so now it wouldn't take much to steal the car)

Thanks everyone for the advise - found a locksmith who cut a new key at a reasonable price - and of course, my wife found the original set 2 days later - at least now I have a spare.

You can't change the lock cylinder out without the keys unless you pull the steering wheel off.

On the AAA subject, I just found out yesterday when I tried to get my SHO towed up a hill to where it rests now all broken, that AAA does not cover any sort of towing other than flat bed and/or "regualr" towing with the anchor/hook. Niether of which help me with my SHO because it cannot be towed w/o serverly denting/scraping my muffs or removing the front bumper cover, dolleys are the only way which run about $100 a tow on avg.
