Sorry if this is answered but in my searching I did not find it.

My 93 has 200k miles and I think the original struts. I want, no, NEED to replace the stuts. I am not asking which ones to get, plenty of threads on that already. I want to know what else to replace while I am replacing the struts.

I plan to order the struts and do it myself. I have access to the right tools and know to be careful with struts. I am looking at the SHOBros site now (thanks for sponsoring SHOForum) and see mounts, struts, bushings, springs and all sorts of stuff. I am not sure which parts are "replace only when broke" and which parts are "replace when worn, and I bet yours are worn".

Thanks!

Replace the strut mounts and bearings. Suspension parts add up quickly so assess the rubber bushings when you have the wheel off and see if there is anything that is really worn out. Otherwise leave it for another day.

If you are going to replace the struts, then IMO it would be borderline foolish not to replace the springs as well, they also have 200K on them and you will have them off in any event. Don't forget new pinch bolts.

And as noted, new strut mounts all around and new front mount bearings are highly recommended.

I guess what I am really asking is what do I need to replace of the parts that I need to remove anyway to do the struts. My goal being a tighter suspension with minimal labor. The passanger rear strut mount is broke and the tire is leaning in at the top. It makes a bad KNOCK when I drive so the car is parked till I get that replaced. Once struts are done I will look at the rest of the suspension and replace any rubber I can, and do the tie rod ends, etc.

Thanks for all the help!

I'm doing the rear suspension in my V8 this weekend.

I'd suggest having (or getting) an impact wrench. I've got a Dewalt electric impact wrench and it's great. I'd prefer a pneumatic but I don't have a compressor yet.

I'd also suggest lots of penetrating fluid like PB Blaster and soak the bolts a couple of days before hand.

Might as well replace swaybar bushings, endlinks, springs, strut mounts, tension strut rod bushings too while your at it.
