Hey guys, this may be a noob question, but I recently started driving a 91 SHO and was wondering at what RPMs would be considered safe to take to motor to. I've only ever taken it to just over 7000rpm, but have seen videos online of people shifting around 7500rpm. Any clarification on this? Thanks.

8,000 for me, but without cams and/or boost, 7,000 is as high as you want to take it.

Figured as much, I heard that the motor can take 7500rpm, but the accessories can't. Suppose I'd need under drive pulleys to rev that high safely.

under-drive pullies are a must if you like the sound of a V6 revving like a crotch rocket, but like jason said, unless you're boosted or cammed, there's not much reason to rev past 7k.

Agreed.. jason not only has udps... he has cams and boost.. he still makes pleanty of power over 7k. Stock tho I believe the power starts to fall off past 6800 or so. I shift about 7100 give or take... I do need udps.. I'm killing my second alt...

When I installed my single 3" exhaust and tuned accordingly, I found my '89 pulling all the way to the limiter.

This is mine from YEARS ago. ShoContinental posted it up a while back...

If Im looking to GO, I run my SHO just shy of the limiter.

No UDPs here.

And Ive never replaced any junk strapped to the front of the motor. NONE of it. ;). ****, the car still has the factory installed water pump

If you can't tell when you're past your powerband you should be shifting at 4000
