Hey guys...first post here. Just wanted to start a bit of a build thread. Working on a 1998 SHO with 160k miles. Interior is in good shape, so I thought it would be worth putting $3000 in total, to have a fun ride. I'm a Corvette guy, but every now and then I need to take the kids to school, etc, so this is going to be my "cheap" car to do so. I've always loved the SHO, I put 250k miles on a 1995...but I've been a big fan of the gen 3's for a while, and picked this one up on the cheap. $1300 initial investment...$250 in brakes, A/C repair, etc, and now going to spend $1000 on wheels and $500 on paint. Also going to lower the car to tuck the 20's!!!

I'm not seeing anything out there on 20's...the black car has been photoshopped...but that's the look I'm looking for out of my maroon one. Anyway, wheels have been bought, 20x9's, and I'm committed to rolling the lips, knocking out the fenders or even adding small flares to make them work. Here's to doing something different!!!

Its not easy to get 20" wheels that will fit well, mainly because of contact with the struts up front at the top if the tire with them has any real sidewall at all. That is the main thing to watch out for.

And yes, welcome to the forum. The Gen III remains a very reliable people mover that is also a lot of fun to drive. And just checking to be sure, but do you know if the cam sprockets have been welded on the one you have acquired? That is the only known major weakness of the vehicle.

Thanks guys! Cams have been welded. I'm planning on doing a fairly small sidewall to try to make the tires fit, and going to try to get the suspension right to give the car a better stance than it has now. I'll keep you updated on my progress!

Here you go guys...one step closer! The 20 x 9's will NOT work, as previously stated...but I'm going to make them work! I'm ordering a set of Shinoda Fender Flares, or Export Fender Flares for the SN95 Mustangs. I think these should actually fit the SHO near perfect, and tie into the rocker trim that's already on the SHO. The 20 x 9's stick out an inch in the front, and fit near perfect in the rear...although I'm going to have to space out the rear to get clearence inside, so the rear flares will be needed there as well. Thoughts?

I'm going to put a tire on that has to stretch a little, so should be ok.

Also, going to fix a brace on the very bottom of the front bumper to force it out as much as possible, to hide more of the wheel looking on from the front.

I have 20 x 8 Boss327, 40mm offset with Lexani 225/30/20
The overall OD is the same as the OE slicers.
I can turn lock to lock with no rubbing. It is on a 2nd gen but you get the idea.
