Wheel Spacers and Oil Recommendations

I want to hear thoughts on wheel spacers. I feel like it would make the car look a little better, but doesn’t anyone use them and if so, any issues? Or is it overall a bad idea? I’ve heard that wheel spacers aren’t a good idea before.

Oil changes - is synthetic blend okay? I’ve heard AMSoil or Mobile1 full synthetic but these places that do quick oil changes don’t usually carry those.

Cheap diecast wheel spacers can compress under the lug nut torque, and this can cause loss of lug torque which means the wheels will be loose. Wheel spacers from companies like LMR.com and Maximum Motorsports are billet and will not compress. Always insure you have at least five threads showing on the studs after the lug nuts are tightened. Or get longer wheel studs.

I've been using Motorcraft Synthetic blend since 2006 in my F-150 5.4 and my '14 SHO and neither vehicle has any oil consumption issues. The F-150 will use about half a quart in 3000 miles and it has 106,000 miles. The SHO doesn't use any oil between the 3000 mille changes. I would stay away from the quick l.ube oil changes places. My daughter lost an engine by going to a quick l.ube. They didn't replace the oil filter correctly and she lost all the oil and seized the engine. It took a law suit to get them to pay for the damage.

I wouldn't use anything but a "full synthetic oil." I've used the full synthetic oil at the Ford dealership in my SHO with no problems and Mobil 1 in my 2008 Ranger with 180k miles on it.

I run 1 inch hub centric adapters when running stock flowers to push them out to the fenders. No issues for multiple years and me driving like an idiot

any full synthetic brand name oil with an SP rating should do fine. since it is a turbo engine, i would favor the "heavier' oils in the viscosity range. or step up to 10w30. pennzoil tends to thinner, castrol and shell tend to thicker, for instance.

motorcraft is actually pretty good oil, blend or full synthetic.

the filter is often overlooked. the best if you can get it is a Purolator BOSS imho. quicker flow and cleaner oil are a good combination.

try not to run the oil too long. it is a common temptation especially in todays economy. ecoboosts tend to put a fair amount of wear metals into the oil. if anything, when using a filter such as the BOSS, you could run the same filter for 2 consecutive oil changes of say 7500 miles intervals, just drain the old oil from the engine and filter in between.

Still change the oil at the correct intervals and like the fact the oil is 100% syn and not a "fully" syn oil that can be as low as 30% syn.

To each their own but, with the amount of power these cars make, I'd be nervous of spacers. Amsoil is hard to find where I live, so I always use Royal Purple full synthetic

I'm using spacers on the Winter setup.
My Summer wheels are 20x9.5 ET40 and my Winter set is 18x8 ET40 so I'm ~20 mm shy of where the Summer set sits and I hate the rhino look of the SHO with the wheels "tucked" in.
I'd need ET20 but alloys with this ET are not that common which makes it hard to find a used set (for Winter) so I opted for the spacers. Yes, not the best option and I'm always a bit worried about using them due to all what has already being pointed out.

I’ve been running spacers for a while. It was always for a more aggressive stance. Never had any issues at the drag strip either with 1” hubcentric spacers with their own studs. Here I’m sitting on 20x9.5 Bravado Tribute+35 offset, 275/35/20 tires with 1” spacers all around

Not sure if you’re familiar with project farm, but he did a bracket test series on motor oils, and found penzoil ultra platinum second to the amsoil, at an admittedly better price point. Just change it regularly, and check it often.

I suppose that’s fair. While I believe him to do a really good job at coming up with clever ways of testing various products, and certainly giving every one a fair shot…at the end of the day he’s just a guy in his garage on the farm. I haven’t seen the video in that link, but the series I was referring to was a 2 part series testing all the main brands of motor oil against one another.

That being said, it’s worth pointing out that the bobistheoilguy people also say amsoil sig series is “snake oil” because it’s overpriced. Is it overpriced? Almost definitely, but plenty of more “official” third party testing (testing some of them also consider suspect) confirms it’s good stuff. I mean, if we’re being honest, super tech full synth at 3k intervals would most likely keep a clean and healthy engine too, all things being equal, but there’s still products that are better. I’d be willing to bet several of them are naysaying because they both outperformed their beloved Mobil 1 and liqimolly…and the guy that supposedly blends several different oils together to make bespoke blends for each individual customer. From my own research as a layman, I think ultimately the main point is, if one has a concern about it, the best bet is to just go with a correctly rated group IV synthetic and change it on the reg.

I made it myself by tracing the chin spoiler on 1/8” plywood, then transferred it to 1/4” abs plastic and cut it out and bolted it on.

Do you know, that this aftermarket piece originated from Mr. Rick Bottom, of RBDesigns, based out of Mendota, IL.?

It originally appeared on his 2009 "SHOx" which was featured in multiple, national based, car shows in 2010.

Rick had since sold off the molds to various aftermarket vendors and funny backstory, Rick was slow to respond to my inquiries, so I, using my own professional background, had a local agency reach out to him, compelling him in turn to respond to (my inquiries) about how to acquire his products.

Funny how things come full circle.
