whenever i take a semi tight turn in my 93 mtx, i get a click click click click sound, relative to my speed, and the front left wheel feels.... loose is all that comes to mind.

I was told that it may be a bad CV joint, but i dunno.

any help????

Probably the CV joint.

Could be the wheel bearing instead or also.

Jack it up, wiggle it around and see what the condition of the bearing, the ball joint, and the tie rod ends actually is. If they are all ok, that pretty much leaves the CV joint. Replacement halfshafts are only 60 bucks at AutoZone for a reman, exhange. Other chains have similar pricing.

Give Mardi at Raxles a call (888) 257-8192 or (800) 257-8192. He'll help you diagnose what exactly you need. His prices are good, not as cheap as an autozone remanufactured axle but he's the best. I know I'm in the minority here because most shoforum members are cheap bastards but:

Raxles:Axles::Quaife:MTX-IV tranny

At least call and talk to him.

Pank,

The symptoms you describe are generally attributable to a worn outer CV joint. (the "tell-tale" clicking while turning)

As suggested above, check the bearing also.

Before you take anything apart, check the position of the ABS sensor ring. It shoud be centered on the sensor.

Look at the sensor ring and check it for any signs that it is hitting the steering knuckle. I have seen this a few times. If this is the case the sensor ring has to be driven back a small amount to clear the knuckle.

If the ABS sensor ring is OK, then the outer CV joint is the most likely problem. Is there CV joint grease around the wheel well? Check the boot for any tears or cracks, especially in the low area between the bellows.

If the boot has a tear or hole in it, and it may or may not, then you would know for certain the joint needs to be replaced.

If you decide that the outer CV joint is the problem you can replace the whole axel, or just the outer CV joint. In fact you can replace the outer joint without pulling the axel.

This saves time and the hassle of draining the trans. If you determine that the outer CV joint needs to be replaced, and want to try doing it without pulling the axel, let us know.

I just did one of these a couple of weeks ago and the process is fresh in my mind (whats left of it). rangerj

how much would a problem like this run me, money wise?
(worst case scenerio.)

if it IS the CV, would i be able to fix it my self, or would i need anything special?

Remanned halfshafts from AutoZone run about 60 bucks exchange.

You will also need enough tranny fluid to refill the MTX . A new seal for a couple bucks would be a good idea.

Scott recently started a thread about the MTX halfshaft replacement. Check it out for some insights.

Man, I gotta buy stock in that store since I push it so much.. :D
