Pank,
The symptoms you describe are generally attributable to a worn outer CV joint. (the "tell-tale" clicking while turning)
As suggested above, check the bearing also.
Before you take anything apart, check the position of the ABS sensor ring. It shoud be centered on the sensor.
Look at the sensor ring and check it for any signs that it is hitting the steering knuckle. I have seen this a few times. If this is the case the sensor ring has to be driven back a small amount to clear the knuckle.
If the ABS sensor ring is OK, then the outer CV joint is the most likely problem. Is there CV joint grease around the wheel well? Check the boot for any tears or cracks, especially in the low area between the bellows.
If the boot has a tear or hole in it, and it may or may not, then you would know for certain the joint needs to be replaced.
If you decide that the outer CV joint is the problem you can replace the whole axel, or just the outer CV joint. In fact you can replace the outer joint without pulling the axel.
This saves time and the hassle of draining the trans. If you determine that the outer CV joint needs to be replaced, and want to try doing it without pulling the axel, let us know.
I just did one of these a couple of weeks ago and the process is fresh in my mind (whats left of it). rangerj
