I know everyone has a different type of brake upgrade from aftermarkets, Cobra, PBR to 96 SHO. I would like to see some pics of each with the with or without the wheel combo. And hear reviews from people who has had tried more than one setup.

Okay, since you asked so nicely...twice...

Bondobrake

Above is a 12" brake with PBR caliper. This is on a Bondurant SHO. You can see that there is a spacer so that the slicer wheel clears. On this one I think maybe somebody left the spacer off once since the caliper has been scraped up pretty good. This car got pranged in the front once, too, so it could be from that.

Baers

Above is the 12.5" Baer sport kit, which is on my silver track car. The two-piece rotors are from Todd Cook (tceperformance). The discoloration on the rotor hat (which I think is kinda pretty) is from heat.

So my 95 has had the stock brakes (which I did take to the track a few times), the 96 upgrade, and this 12.5" Baer kit. The 96 upgrade is stellar for the street and light track duty if you manage them well (I'm still impressed that Lance still uses them on the track). I went to the 12.5" kit since it has an aluminum caliper and is the biggest kit that fits under 16" rims. These are great brakes for the track, especially with cooling ducts.

On the front I have Baer(PBR) calipers, Mustang cobra brackets and 13" cobra rotors(redrilled to fit taurus hub) The rears are 11.6" rotors from a 96 taurus, Calipers from a 91 taurus and a custom bracket and hubcentric ring.

I have the bias plugs in the rear proportioning valve to give full flow to the rear calipers.

With a very agressive front pad and a fairly agressive rear pad the brakes are incredible.

If the 13" pbr setup wasn't so cheap, I would upgrade to 4 or 6 piston bridge type fixed calipers and better rotors, but for the money, I think it's hard to beat. If I tracked the car regularly, I would get better calipers. I thought about trying to put on smaller front aluminum hat rotors to cut down on unsprung weight and bring the mass closer to the center of the wheel to help acceleration, and I might in the future, but for now the car runs pretty good, so I'm happy.

IMO it's perfectly fine for any street SHO. Much much better than what came on the gen IIs.

13" Baer Eradispeed rotors on all 4 corners. Cobra(PBR) calipers up front, stock calipers out back. You definitely need a proportioning valve with this setup!

What is the difference in the Cobra and regular PBR calibers? do they both require customizing in order to fit the 96 upgrade?

All you need is 94-95 knuckles, Cobra Calipers found on Ebay and 13 inch rotors redrilled to 5x4.5.

Also add stainless steel lines.

Watch rear-view mirror for cars slamming into you when you mash on the brakes.

In the pix that I posted above the only difference in the calipers is that one says "Cobra" on it and one says "Baer" on it. They're both the HD PBR aluminum calipers. I'm pretty sure they're both the same piston diameters as well.

And yes, there is some customization to fit them on a 94-95 knuckle. They're not direct bolt-ons.

There not? What customization is required? I bolted mine up without any mods.

And they don't "fit" the 96 upgrade. A 96 upgrade, is the caliper mounting brackets and rotors from a 96 taurus. You can use the stock 94-95 pads, which don't cover the entire swept area of the 96 rotor, or you can get the 96 pads, which are a little larger.

To upgrade to cobra brakes, you need the caliper brackets and calipers from a mustang and the 13" rotors.

if youre going to 13" rotors, no modification is necessary to the caliper brackets. if going to the 11.6 or 12" rotor with the Cobra calipers, modification is required.

Interesting info in here.

FWIW, I'm currently running stock but I have a front set of 2-piston PBR's w/ 13" rotors and 2 sets of pads that I'm hoping to get on in about a month and a half (mid-April, when I take her out of the garage).

I'm still shopping around for what fluid to use, how much I'll need, and if I should upgrade the rears to 11.6"s... :naughty:

Any (more) reviews on fluids and rear brake upgrades?

I LOVE the 13' big brake kit.
The normal rotors weight something fierce. If you can afford it or if can even find them, try and get the Bear Eradi spped rotors. Much lighter, and should be able to accelerate a tad quicker, since you'll be shaving a couple pounds of each of the front rotors (less rotating mass).

Anybody know where these rotors can be found, or do you have to buy Mustang ones and get them redrilled??

You should also get the ones that are zinc plated so the wont get that rusty color on them, like mine are starting to show. YOu can see their is still room for bigger brakes behind the 18's. MAybe the 14" kit from Roush :dribble:

Any Mustang shop should be able to get the 13" Eradispeed rotors. www.tirerack.com sells them for $479/pair. Then you need to get them redrilled. I did mine myself but drilling holes in a set of $1000 rotors brought tears to my eyes.

If I had to do it again, I'd call Baer direct and order them with the correct bolt pattern. IIRC they will do that for you.

I'll have some feedback on the SHO Stopper Jr. kit with Power Slot rotors, PolyMatrix 'A' and 'D' pads, with some of Eric's brake cooling ducts. I plan on running through more rotors than pads.
