I just had mine replaced on the drivers side. They replaced the hub and the bearing, because when they bought the part, it came as one part. ??? They were able to do it in about 3 hours. Cost me roughly 450 bucks to replace mine. I dont think it is that hard. They also replaced the ABS Brake ring at the same time, since mine had a huge crack through it, now I know why the ABS brake light was coming on. =)

I know that it doesnt answer your question on how hard to personally change it but thought I would add my .02 worth as well.

Do the Hub/bearing kid come assembled? If it come assebled is it just a matter of swapping it out or do you still need a press somewhere?

the hub is pressed through the bearing, which requires a lot of force, like using a press. the bearing is held in place with a big retaining ring that act as a stop, preventing the bearing from coming off its place....

What year did Ford start making the hub and bearing a bolt on assembly for the Taurus/Sable?

I know the Gen I SHO has to have the bearing presses out of the Steering knuckle, and a new bearing pressed in. Then the hub is pressed into the bearing.

But is this true of the GenII SHOs?

Re the ball joint, change the whole lower controll arm with new ball joint and bushings. The SHO lower control arm is heavier than the SLO/Sable unit, at least in Gen I. They are about $85 and not difficult to change.

If you do one side, do the other as well, and then get an alignment. rangerj

If you have a tool called a hubshark you can swapp the bearing out without removeing it from the vehicle. If not a press is needed and you have to press the old bearing out in order to install new one. I just did mine last week and was debating on getting the hub and bearing because of how loose it was. But when I pressed the spindle out there was no wear on it and I was able to reuse it and it is fine now. Use your best judgement on the wear of the hub if you can use it or not. It is alot cheaper if you dont have to though
