Today i was low on gas so i put in 89 grade gas in the sho. I only put in about 4 gallons, enough to get me home to where the gas prices are cheaper. Once i started home, about 30 miles after driving it, I felt the car start jerking and not wanting to pull. So, i turned down the radio, and heard a popping noise. When i came to a stop I realized it was ticking loud. So I went and put in 93 octane gas, octane booster, got my oil changed, etc. Still ticks and won't pull very good. It just runs like crap, and the ticking really scares me. From what i can tell, its ticking from the top. This is my 1993 mtx sho. Could it still be running like crap because of that crappy gas i put in? Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

how long did you drive it after you put 93 octane in?and instead of octane boost try putting in a couple of bottles of dry gas in and also get a bottle Techron injector cleaner...could be you have a really bad case of water in the gas...was it a name brand gas station or Habib's gas station?if that doesnt help try pulling a couple of plugs and see how they are they could be real bad too...if you have any more questions feel free to pm me

thanks for the response. I went to Shell to get my gas. I don't usually go to that specific store tho, I usually go to the one closer by my house. I drove it 12 miles with the 93 octane in the tank. I'll have my dad check the plugs when i get home and i'll post the results.

when you say "dry gas" do you mean something like isopropyl gas line antifreeze? I had a bad case of no gas in the tank once that exhibited similar symptoms. Surprisingly my car didn't stall before I made it home. It drove jerky for the last half mile. Fortunately putting some gas in the tank fixed my problem. I know not to push that needle past the red mark on e from now on. :headbang:

Dry gas... Go to Wally world or Autozone, or maybe even Habib's, and get it. it's in a Yellow bottle, that says "HEET" on it. It also comes in a red bottle for the "good" stuff. Also works great when you can't pass an emission's test.

Your problem has absolutely nothing to do with the gas you used or the octane of the fuel. These cars run perfectly fine on 87 octane as they were intended to. Personally, I wish people who are unknowledgeable about octane and what it is would not throw more fuel (pun intended) on that fire.

The dead give-away is the "ticking" noise. That's the noise of spark jumping a gap. Check to see which spark plug wire popped off due to a well filled with oil. Don't be surprised at all if it is one of the firewall side ones.

Indeed you are right projectSHO89! It was a spark plug that had come loose. It's the one on the back side of the engine. What a relief it was to find out that it was that. haha, now to get to it! Yeah, i figured that the octane had nothing to do with it, because that is all i used to put in it, but I thought that it might be a possibility that the heat might have affected it. Oh well, PROBLEM SOLVED!!! :thumb:

Yeah, it also works as "water remover".
