What's with these thermostats?!

I can't find a tstat with even one jiggle valve in it. I've always used motorcraft dual jiggle valves but they are now obsolete. I know these motors need at least one, since the tstat is mounted so low.. any ideas where to find one? thanks!

They really don't need them if the rest of the system is sealed. If you want you can dill a small hole in the t-stat and position it at the top.

If i could get the system in vacuum, I would feel comfy with it. Being that many of lines are rusty and many others feel soft, one small leak and the lack of jiggle valves would probably not be a good thing.. Ugh.. Motorcraft part # is RT1112 and my parts dealer says although he doesn't stock it, it doesn't show as obsolete (although he can't find any of their locations with one).

This, my friends, is why I worry about owning such a car.

You can replace all the hoses in the motor for less than $100 easy with generic or bulk hose. I had the short fat one that connects the two pipes together on the drivers side blow on me at highway speeds and 5 miles from home.

Made quite a sight but got home with no damage luckily.

You can get a set of Dremel drill bits, and get one of the smaller ones and drill your own jiggle valve. A 1/64" drill bit will not let enough coolant through for it to matter, but it will let compressed air bubbles through just fine.

Paul, I hear ya on that! I'm not quite so worried about the hoses breaking since they replaceable with bulb hose. I just don't have any time to gobble up on replacing all the stuff.

Sounds like I'll try the 1/64th drilling. I know the valve itself isn't too important and I can probably make one with some drum brake hardware laying around!

I just like to watch the jiggle.. valves, that is! :p

Thanks for all the input guys!

Update: Apparently a Lee Auto Parts unit does indeed have a single valve built in. It's a Parts Master tstat. I'm not too keen of PM's quality, but beggers with taurus' cant all be choosers! :fit:

1/64th drill is WAY TOO SMALL! 1/4" is fine for the USA. So it may take an extra 2 min for it to get up to temp to open the thermostat ,big deal. Maybe if you live in Antarctica & its -30 for months then you may not want a hole in there at all.

Well I didn't look at my bits before I gave out the number. I probably should've mentioned that. Now that I think about it, 1/64" is pretty small. Maybe 1/16 or 1/8. Personally I wouldn't want the hole getting too big... air bubbles can fit through some remarkably small spaces!

James, well I'll have to believe it or just live with it for now! haha... My parts guy just sent me the one with a jiggle valve. I feel better!

I can't wait until the day comes when we can't get a tstat at all.. The next SHO swing is to modify the housing to accept an LS2 unit! :nut:

Maybe some strapping young lad out there can make a tutorial and a sticky of this for more ********** like me who are picky about their thermostats! :D

Make life simple. The Duralast 15878 thermostat (plus Felpro 35278 seal) from AZ is well made, works perfectly, and has the proper valve. That's the 180 degree PN, they have an equivalent 195 degree unit.
