What your ATX front motor mount SHOULDNT look like!! **With Pics**

Well I dont have a picture right now but I will describe until I snap a photo later.

Basically I bought a reniforced one from TYSHO. There is a HUGE differnece, I love the feeling now.
When I took the stock one out, I removed the two upper 13mm bolts and decided to see what would happen when I wiggled the mount. Well the top half of the mount FELL off, it was snapped in two. I removed the lower part where it connects to the subframe and pulled it out, the stud that was in there was snapped AND bent and everything else on the thing was toast. I will snap a photo for your enjoyment and post it later, its rather funny!!

ATX reinforced MMs are a GREAT investment, I absolutely love the way the car drives now.

Heres the stock busted one:

And heres the solid one installed, if you look closely you can see that there are metal braces along the sides of the mount...

Where did you get them?

I just bought replacement front and rear ATX motor mounts as well as the transmission mount. I got them from Carquest and an online Ford parts store. I could only find MTX reinforced motor mounts. Who is TYSHO?

TYSHO is a member on here, he takes stock ford OEM mounts and welds them up to be solid. I dont think he makes these on a regular basis tho...

How much did you pay for OEM rear motor mount and the tranny mount?? And so you know I heard its a B**ch to get the rear mount off. I wouldnt mind welding up the rear MM and the tranny mount so that they too are reinforced.

My front MTX motor mount was in the same condition. I boxed it and welded it solid :naughty: , so there is no movement at all now. It did cause some vibrations to transfer to the interior, but the car wasnt worth purchasing a new mount. $5 in steel, some wire/gas and a little time.

Its not the prettiest thing, but it works.

SableSal,
Thanks, yes I welded it. I actually didnt worry too much about it looking good being that you cant see it. I could have gotten away with a single pass which would have looked better, but I just figured Id have some fun with it and go a little overboard. Once I get to welding, I just cant stop, its like an addiction, LOL.

Question for you motor mount-smart people.
Are these Extreme motor mounts? I thought there would be less rubber to them. They look spraypainted, so I'm guessing they are the right ones. The ones in zuup_2000's pictures look like they re made of a lot more metal.

Josh, thanks a lot for getting these to me so fast. I would wait until tomorrow and call with these questions, (not that I doubt you) but a) I want to start installing them tonight, and b) you get a little advertising out of the pictures. :thumb:

Just so there is no confusion, the one in my pic is a solid mount that I made myself. Dont confuse them with the Extreme mounts you are refering to. Thats why it looks so much different. I was going to use the large bolts through the brackets method, like someone else on this forum did, but this ended up being easier. Plus, I had the pleasure of melting some metal :) .

So yours is all metal, with no rubber? And they aren't just regular ones, reinforced with a lot of metal?
Damn, you must feel every cylinder fire!

No rubber at all, solid as a rock. Yes it is a regular stock mount modified. It really isnt as bad as you would think, but it did transfer a little engine noise to the interior. I still have factory rubber subframe mounts, but if I had the aluminum mounts, Im sure it would be pretty noisy in the interior. The rubber mounts still isolate most of the engine noise, and vibrations.
