I have a 94 auto, pan says AXOD. Getting conflicting stories from auto parts stores on whether or not my torque convertor is available. I know it has to be available somewhere but not sure if there was a difference between the convertors for the other trans? Rock auto has one for the AX4S..I think that's what it said. Is it the same or do I need a different one? Thanks:thankyou:

Well, I can tell you for an absolute fact that the SHO torque converter is NOT the same as the vulcan or the 3.8.

With our Torque Converters we will get you the right one and they are stronger then the parts store units. Also you can select the stall speed.

One quick question for everyone...I see the general option to pull tranny is to drop subframe. Has anyone ever done an ATX by pulling it out the side? I did it with my manual once but wondering if the ATX is much bigger to be a problem.

it does not come out the side. you can drop the subframe and drop it out the bottom, or you can pull the engine and take it out the top.

not trying to highjack the thread, but after reading these posts about TCs I doubt came to mi mind.

Whenever you get code 628 from the transmission meaning "Excessive Torque Converter Slippeage" means that it's time for a new TC or does the valve body also plays a role in this?

EL SHO, I was getting the same code. I am changing out the torque convertor now, but also going to have someone look at my tranny while its out. Are you experiencing any other problems with it? Mine would not shift right above 5,000 RPMS

Yeah I was getting code 628 way too often before I had my tranny rebuilt, but even after the rebuilt my TC won't stay locked up.
No other issues besides that, all 4 gears plus reverse shift fine but my TC locks up at 40mph but it won't stay even a half a minute and will unlock and will go back to 4th gear.

Supposedly when I had my tranny rebuilt, at the shop they also replaced the TC, but they left the same valve body, but so they said, changed all the solenoids in it.

Hmm. Mine wont lock up at all. Well see how it goes once the tranny is put back in. Im looking for a guy to check it over today, so in a week or so I should be putting things back together.

And all other gears work or used to work fine in yours?

hopefully you get the TC to lock and found out the cause it won't lock. I just can't find why mine won't stay locked. If it's actually the TC, pressure related or the valve body

I took the SHO on a long trip yesterday and even without OD and only in 4th gear I averaged about 22mpg with AC on and some city driving. I would imagine that would improve with the TC locking up.

Did some research and found out the symptoms ive had are linked with the valve body. Not sure what exactly causes it, think i will tear mine down and look over everything.

Thats what im thinking. I took mine into a tranny shop yesterday and they agreed it sounded like a valve body issue. There is a bushing and seal that goes bad on the main pump shaft that when its wore out can leak pressure, thus causing no TQ convertor lockup and in my case the gears wont shift once ive reached a certain RPM. (Too much pressure loss.) They will be going thru it in the next week or so and Ill report back what they find. They will be running pressure tests and checking specs on everything

Reporting back on what the transmission shop found. My pump shaft bushing was wore out completely, seal had fallen out altogether. Major pressure loss there. They havent found anything else wrong with it. That in itself is plenty enough reason for it not to shift right. Surprised it still shifted at all. Might want to check for that EL SHO

Ill let you know what happens when I put it all back in the car and drive it. Going to be doing more maintenance to the engine (gaskets and seals) before i put it back together. Might be a few more weeks before she runs on the road again! Cant wait tho!

Hey man, thanks for the heads up!
I'm not that familiar with transmissions... so, the pump shaft bushing you mention is not part of the valve body but internal in the transmission and part of the trans oil pump?

I believe your correct. Since I had not opened it up myself, i dont know. Maybe someone out here on the forum can answer this for us. I would think its just internal. but if it is leaking most of the pressure before it reaches the valve body, it would seem like a valve body issue.
