I have a 92 MTX with 126k. I just recently replaced both the TStat and the radiator. When driving around in the city it will run up into the N part of normal, but will go back down do the MA as soon as any extended driving is done. I just bought this beautiful machine about a month ago and I want her to run well. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the radiator fan to me. Fan, connector, or relay.

Not sure on SHO but other Fords will set fan to on whenever A/C is engaged.

Anybody else?

Could also be your water pump starting to die. Less revs on the engine means less spins on the pump, which means less fluid running through the block and radiator.

Just a thought...

I know my engine temps were all whacked prior to replacement of the water pump.

It's probably the brushes on the fan motor. You can get the motor rebuilt with new brushes, replace the motor or get the entire fan/shroud/motor assembly from Ford.

Water pumps don't die by pumping less water. They die by leaking water at the shaft seal. They still pump water just fine though. Only if there is rampant corrosion that completely eats away the steel impeller will the pump move less water. If that is the case, your cast iron engine block has more problems than the water pump.

sdpatt, not all water pumps fail by leaking and the shaft, i had to replcae one a few months ago becuae it had seized

We'll add that one to the data bank. It doesn't happen very often, but the bearings can also fail. The seals and the bearings re replaced on the rebuilt pumps. Those are the only components on the pump that are really subject to wear.
