Just need to pop in some mufflers from a gen3 SHO. In fact, gen3 SHOs didn't actually have V8s, just special mufflers that made it sound that way.

Just joking, doesn't matter which mufflers you use, it's still a V6.

With the right exhaust you can make the v6 sound okay, but it will never sound like a v8.....just not enough displacment etc.

Displacment? The V8 SHO only had .4 liters, or .2 for the 3.2 ;), more displacment. But that thing still sounds like a damn good V8 (at least for my taste.) But I do agree, the V6 SHO will never sound like a V8. Once I think about it, you could record a V8 youtube video onto an IPOD, crank your radio up, roll down those windows, and then ur car might sound like a V8.:naughty:

Got me.....guess the displacment isn't all that different. Just missing 2 other cylinders. Guess my point was the the v6 doesn't have the equiment to sound like a v8. Also, mufflers aren't going to give you any real HP gains on these cars. If yours is a MTX a y-pipe will be your biggest exhaust performance improvement.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. Something about the point where the pipe goes into the Cat is almost a 90 degree angle. Good thing I have an ATX! haha. But, I've always wanted a MTX.....

LOL You guys are hilarious.

The V8 sounds like a V8 because it has a dual plane crank. That results in a firing order that generally has a cylinder on one bank fire and then one on the other bank, but once each revolution it has two on the same bank fire right after each other. That results in uneven exhaust pulses and that lower, rumbling sound that the V8 gives. All V6 that I have ever seen are even-firing - one on left bank, then right bank, then left again. So you never get the variation in pulses that gets you the rumble. There is no muffler that can make up for the fact that the V6 is smooth. Period.

Well, I'd actually like to know how to get a [less smooth] sound. A V8 sound isn't going to happen obviously, but a rougher sound would be nice.

This is my Tbird, it has Mustang GT mufflers.

I like that "fuzzy" low sound that makes. My SHO came with cheapass Thrush mufflers so I was thinking of swapping some mustang ones on it anyway.

What you do is, off road pipe for a mustang, they bolt right up, hollow out the 1 chamber flowmasters, then take the factory turbo out. That thing will sound like a big block Chevy.

A lot of Buick v6s were oddfire..

You possibly drive by a oddfire v6 everyday and didnt know it.. chrysler 3.9 v6s were oddfire...
Speaking of oddfire the viper v10 is oddfire which is essentially two v5s together... check oit the firing order of a viper v10.. its screwy

What I actually ran on my first SHO was 6" mufflers with 4.5" tips. Angled 45°... Sounded incredible and you couldn't tell the car was running when it was idling. Very nice, deep tone. I know it sounds funny, but if I keep my current one (for sale) that's the plan.
