I have 92 MTX and want to buy a code reader. I really can't afford a $300 reader. Whats the best bang for the buck?

Yeah, I did a search here, but not to many opinions available.

I have created the my SHO super custom EEC test jumper ( wink ) for little more than the cost of the paper clip. It consists of a 4" length of 14ga. (approx) wire with a 1/4" spade lug crimped onto each end. This jumper fits into the SELF TEST INPUT and SIGNAL RETURN terminals of the EEC test plugs. Then all you need is the ignition key to run the test. Once the test has run, all you need is the decription of the code flash sequences and the code numbers. Go to the Dali Design site for the test instructions and links to the code descriptions.

Buy my deluxe test kit. You can get it in a wide array of colors. I don't use that wimping little 22 gauge wire scott uses on his inferior kit. I use heavy 16 gauge wire with with soldered gold coated spade connectors. This is needed to handle the awesome current requirements. Your sho deserves the best. I also throw in one of those dash mounted passive radar scramblers free ($300 value!!!)

Price list:

Stock black wire $149.99 (half the price of some kits)

Custom colors $199.99

Well, the kit that I produce features multi-strand premium copper conduit. The ultimate in current transfer technology. This copper is derived from exotic lands, secretive to the Figi islands. The male ends feature corrosion resistant spring loaded clips, great for those who want the absolute best in code retrieval. This patent pending item is only available for a very limited time. Get yours today! thumbs_u beer

Well, excuuuuuse me! If you look back at my first post, you'll see that I specified 14 gauge wire. However, in reality, it's probably closer to 18 gauge. :)

Another alternative if you want to waste money is Wal-Mart and Sears carry an "ACTRON" #cp9015.
It has an audio beep as well as a fancy red LED which can be helpful. Cost is 25-35 bucks.
It also comes with a code book.

Hmmm I think he was asking about the reader, not the jumper. I actually use two readers....both are calibrated by my optomitrist and read at 20/20. I think you may have these readers laying around someplace on either side of your nose.

Ok scott, so you use 18 gauge (falsely advertised as 14!!!). But you don't use the gold coated conectors. That is the secret! crapping aluminum spade connectors are the current bottleneck. I bet half the car fires you here about are caused by heat build up at the connector.

So remember folks, go for the gold!!!!! Don't risk your life using inferior products. I am so concerned for my fellow sho owners safety that I am willing to lower my prices (good for 48 hrs).

New blowout sale prices:

Black wires- $99.99 (same price as scott's shoddy engine fire causing kit!)

custom color- $149.99

And not one, but 2 deluxe passive radar scramblers!!!!

So, out of 11 replies I got 2 useable answers to my question. Yeah, that was a worthy posting.

I'm not real comforatable with electronic stuff, so I'll be "investing" in a EEC Code Reader and pass on the paperclip idea.
