I got a stock alternator right now but I am going to be going high output stereo this weekend and it should be capable of 1500+ watts although thats running all out at 2 ohms which I am not....so I figure it will be around 800 watts of power @ 4 ohms...

I was told I would need another battery and a 200 amp alternator..

you guys have a place to buy a alternator that will last a while?

There's a 200amp on ebay , but I have noclue where it's coming from (police alt maybe?)

Highest alternators are the 94-95 pushing 120amps.

Wherever you buy it , my only advice is don't buy the NAPA ones.

I am running a Kicker zx1500.1 , zx650.4 and 1 15l7. II have a 92 with the battery in the rear of the car and have no problems with it at all. I also have 2 dei 10's and a d1200 in my other sho stock alternator and battery in the rear also no probs.

800 watts in no way requires a high amp alt and an extra battery!! You shouldn't need that even with the 1500 watts either. You only put out as many watts as the speakers need to play the sound at a certain decible level. With the volume at normal listening levels, you're amps aren't generating all the power(watts) they can.

The facotry alt on 89-93 puts out 90 amps, while the 94-95 one is about 120 amps. Don't forget, the alt only puts out what is needed, it doesn't put out 90 or 120 amps at all times.

Any high output alt you find for the SHO will just be a re-wound stock one, or maybe running an overdrive pulley to make it spin faster. I'd be very suspect of the later, as it probably won't last very long. The re-wind will also sacrifice amps at some speed, to achieve higher amps at a different speed. IE, at 2000 RPM the alt will put out 75 amps, and at 5000 rpm it will put out the advertised 110 amps. <-- That is just a hypothetical exampler

Agreed. Just guy a couple of 1 Farad Capacitors and you'll be fine.

I am running a JBL Powervalve Pushing 3 12's at about 1500 watts RMS total, plus a 600 RMS amp for my highs, and I am fine on the stocker. I have 0 gauge power wire, and that is a big help. Get the power wire off ebay (maybe 70 bux). I also have 2 1 Farad caps. My lights barely dim, and have had this stereo in for a few years with no alt. problems.

Caps are usually just band-aids and are hardly ever neccessary. If you have dimming lights(a voltage gauge should be used to determine actual voltage drop) before installing a cap, and it's fixed after, you have charging problems that the cap is now masking.
