On the way home today, I was getting on the freeway; about 1/2 way up the on ramp I hit the o/d off button and stomped it. Maybe my tires are not the best, but she smoked them good & banged the next gear like a champ.
A mile later I hit the gas, and no downshift.. It did pick up speed smoothly, but
nothing like earlier... Wrong gear? wrong speed? I only grab second at speed
when there is a real challenge.( she don't like to be abused like that.)
So my question(s) are, what might cause the major difference in performance?
VSS? And, what are the sweet spots for the ATX? I found the on ramp/OD off
one..

Hmm the no downshift condition does sounds identical to a vss problem i just finished replacing mine a couple days ago for the same problem.

Next time you go out on a drive floor it from a dead stop or at speeds lower then 25 and see when it shifts into 2nd most often then not a bad vss will cause a early shift like at around 3800 to 4200 rpm or when come to a stop note how bad the downshifts are with a bad vss it will sometimes bang into gear when downshifitng or down shift late.

YES!! that's it! Sometimes it will bang(not in a good way) from 1-2 at low speed, sometimes it will shift very slowly at speed(acts like it's slipping).. Most of the time, it will just snap them off 1-2-3, nice and crisp... Supposed to be a real pain to change..:snicker: :laugh_ti:

Yeah it's not bad to replace if you can get your y-pipe bolts out it depends on how rusted they are, if they do break it's no a big deal just simple hardware nuts and bolts will fix it.

The best thing to do make sure to spray the bolts down with the rust breaker before you start after that just remove the y-pipe bolts.

theres 2 for the front ****** 2 for the back and 2 where the y-pipe meets to the rest of the exhaust they should be 14mm nuts after that remove the heat shield from the vss housing unplug the vss electrical connector and then pull the pill holding the speedo cable in and then remove the 10mm bolt holding the vss sensor in place and remove the sensor swap over the spedoo gear off the old vss and repeat the procedure it took me about 2 hours but it would have taken less if i jacked up the car and let the motor cool over night.

Would this be easier to do on a lift? Take the tire off? remove inner fenderwell?
Would dropping that side of the subframe make this easier? Maybe I can do the SFB's AND the vss when I drop that side? needs strut rod bushings, too...

I lift would definatly make things easier as for dropping the subframe it might make it easier but you will still need to drop the y-pipe no matter what since the vss sensor hides behid the y-pipe and under the manifold so it really hard to get to with out dropping the y-pipe

So remove the y-pipe, and tilt/drop the sub-frame to make sfb/vss easier?
one side then the other? DUH...:nut:
