When replacing the H2O pump is it advised to coat the pump to Block surface with non-hardening gasket compound?

93nighthawk~ I just got a new waterpump and it came with a standard gasget not an o-ring. 94 ATX 3.2L. Just want to make sure of two things I recieved the right part and not tear into it if I dont.93nighthawk:
When I replaced my water pump I did not use any extra sealing. All you need is that little o-ring to stay in the grove, (which is a pain while trying to fasten it down, they like to fall off so keep looking on the floor,) and torque it to specks. I am not saying that it would not help, it might. Maybe someone else can answer that.

Well I'm thinking they sold me new front half at autozone. Could you see your impellar.93nighthawk:

I got my waterpump from O'Riely's Auto parts (I opted for the brand new one, not the rebuild,) It came with 3 O-rings (the Two tubes and one to connect to the block). There was no gasket at all. When I pulled the original one out, all it had were O-rings. I looked at the two, they were identical for parts and sizes (except the old one was a little rusty), so I assumed everything was there. That was a little over two years ago. Sorry I can't be more help.

It looks like half of that. My new autozone waterpump is only the pump half, simular to what you would get if you bought a reman.93nighthawk:
ah, I could see it if I looked at it where it connects to the block, but after thinking about it, are you sure you did not get the re-build kit? It shoul be a whole piece.
Go to www.shotimes.com they have step by step procedure w/ pics. That is where I got started doing my own work, screw paying someone $50+/hr for something you can do yourself.
(below is a pic of the water pump, owned by shotimes.)

Now if it does not look like this, there is something wrong.

PS no offense on borrowing shotimes pic, just trying to help a fellow show owner
I called about the A1Cordone at Oriely which is the same part # you've indicated and it is the same as the one I got just the front (pump) half. Doesn't come with the back housing with the outlet tube.93nighthawk:
It definitely sounds like you got the rebuild kit. Mine was complete and looked exactly like the pic. How much did you pay for it? I only question how well the new part will mate with your part, if any of it is off, your going to have a leaky water pump. Here is a list off of www.carparts.com water pumps.

Excellent advice. I would suggest for anyone changing the waterpump to always get a new O-ring for the block seal. Its only a few bucks, but will save a lot of grief. PN E9DZ-8513-B, usually available at a local dealer, or FPN.drivinhard:
This is why I only use the OEM replacement pumps. Comes with water tube O ring, block to pump O ring, and inlet gasket.
Most of the aftermarket pumps are just a front half, and don't even address the rear O rings and inlet gasket, which in my experience leak just as much as the front seal/bearing.
If you use a reman pump from the local store, at least order the Ford O rings and remount the old rear housing with the new rings.

SHOtimer said:I have never used any sealant on the block to O-ring seal and it has always sealed. You just have to make sure the block is clean and smooth, and the O-ring is in the groove (and the O-ring is new). I personally wouldn't recommend using any sealant ing the block to O-ring area.
