Hello all!
I am putting on a new water pump and both serpentine belts, but I am rather in-experienced about maintainance. I know our cars need alot of preventitive work, what other things are a necessity (if any) to do once Its tore down and ready for the water pump?

thanks in advance!

Search front 60 K on this forum and you will see what is involved.
It helps to know the mileage and what has been done on the car in the past.
Some people insist that if the waterpump was leaking, to change the front crank position senser, others don't.
The cars have a reputation for being high maintenance. I have a 89 winter beater that has over 200k and it has had the little 9 1/4 clutch changed to the 9 3/4 in 1991 and that is it.... and it still runs fine.

If the maintenance history of the car is unknown, then while you have it all apart, do these:
timing belt
3 cam shaft seals
crank shaft seal
crank shaft sensor
water pump
accessory belts
check accessory idler pulleys for bearing noise

Once you do that, you should be good for at least 60k miles on the front maintenance.

thanks for the replies.

The car has 142,000 and I just got it from texas from a guy who jumped the title and sold it to me with rotten tires and belts knowing i had a 1,200 mile trip to get it home,

they preventitive maitainance on the car looks to be minimal

Rockauto part # ES70425

Yes, it's seperate:wave:

Have fun, I just got done doing mine a few months back.

Also, go here>> http://www.shophoenixproject.com/lower60k/lower60k.htm

Awesome info and a step-by-step through the whole thing. It's great for people doing this for the first time.

If you're doing the WP, might as well do EVERYTHING for a front 60K tune-up.

Looks like you're good to go.:woo-hoo:

Just make sure you have all the tools and take your time.

Having a friend help is a good idea too. I would have lost my mind without my brother helping!

GOOD LUCK!
