Yup, last night on my way home. I heard a clanking sound and when I looked under the hood...... BLAM! The water pump was wiggling away. As I tried to limp it home, the power steering went also cause the belt slipped completely and those pully's stop moving. I finally got it home after I cooled it down a bit.

Ok, so now I have to change the water pump. Help.

Is your PS pump shot also? Changing the waterpump isn't that bad a job. If you have the $ it would be a good time to do the rest of the maintenance like the timing belt and CPS. Do a search on waterpump replacement and you'll be well on your way.

actually, the ps is fine. The water pump clanked and stopped, so the ps stopped also. The ps hasnt given me a problem ever so it should be fine.

I wish I had the money to do the rest of the maintenance but thats going to have to wait till it gets warmer.

When the pump leaks out of its weeping hole then its pretty much already gone I am surprised you got around on it for a while at all in that state.

The pumps shouldnt be that hard its getting to it that sucks.

If you have been leaking coolant out the weep hole, chances are some of that got onto your CPS. I would change it!

Sadly, I dont have the money to get it. Fortunatly, the CPS has never given me a problem. Hopefully now that there wont be any antifreeze falling on it, itll give me even less problems.

Are you using new O-rings, if not that could be the cause of the leak. Especially the one that mates directly to the block, I've found that cannot be reused.

Back to it. Had to take off the timing belt, the whole front of the engine. Only one thing broke. The CPS. It broke as we were taking it out. Cant get a new one till wedsnday. Bummer. And there seems to be a slight leak from somewhere deep in.

Make sure when you get the pump back on that the rear of the pump that connects to the coolant tube going across the engine is securely on the water pump. I'd spend the $5 on the waterpump gasket set. You can replace the o-ring that goes on the coolant tube and the o-ring that goes on the waterpump where it mates to the block.

Are they both the same gasket?

Also, this would mean that once again I would have to pull apart all the timing stuff. Uhg

Ok, so now I have the cps, installing it this week, but I still have to deal with the leak. Does anybody know what the pipe that connects to the water pump is connected to at the other end? It's leaking from the other side of the engine. Not from the water pump area. Also, it doesnt leak when i crank it, it leakes just filling the system. Anybody? Help. Please help. Thanks

If it connects to the thermostat housing on the other side, where, or at what points along the pipe would it be able to leak?

The coolant pipe runs under the intake. The only place the pipe can leak is at both ends where an "O" ring resides.

And finally, after tearing the front of the engine off 5 times, working in pouring rain and below 30 weather, teh water pump is sealed up, there are no leaks and the car is back on the street. The check engine light comes on now more ofter than before and the steering shudders alittle bit, but thats probably because my friend tightened the belts a little too much. Either way, the SHO is back and better than ever. Next up for the spring.....
Extreme motor mounts, new head gaskets, plug well seals, timing belt, spark plugs and cables, front springs and struts, and a deep intake cleaning. Oh joy!
