in there defence, my last set of rear calipers are from advance also and they were great for years.

so i had a problem with the DS rear wheele locking up. opon inspection i blaimed the caliper and took it back to advance auto. they replaced it, no questions asked. So i install the new one and the ebrake is still hanging.... sooo... i ordered all three Ebrake cables from rockauto.com (awsome vendor and good price) and got them all installed. set the brake,.. wheeles is held well, working great. let the brake off..... locked up again.. :madflame:  i could easyly pry the lever up and the wheele would release... that didn't make any sense so i went and got the old caliper to compare. the parkingbrake return spring on the new caliper was HALF the size of the original if not less.. so after much  and bleading (anyone that has attempted to change this spring knows what i'm talking about) the spring from the old caliper was installed on the new one. now everything is working great. releases on time and all.. just letting everyone know. if you buy one, compare the springs in the store. if they aren't the same, make them give you another one. trust me, you don't want to go through the crap i have over this..

humm maybe they put the wrong spring on your caliper. the sho/police claipers are different size compared to the slo version.

Been there, done that. The return spring is a real pita off the car but if you put the caliper in a vice it goes fairly easy. On the car it's next to impossible, well....when you're working on your back that is. On a lift it might be easier to get a better position. Regardless, when dealing with these springs be careful, they can be very dangerous to work with if you're not being careful.

FWIW, I never buy the loaded calipers from anywhere. My personal preference I guess.

yeah, i changed mine with it installed on the car and the car on a jack on the ground.. :D

and no, it didn't say in the box to keep the old spring, it came with a new on on it. just not the right one apparently,

and also no, the hose hasn't collapsed, the sticking was the parking brake, not regular braking and is working perfectly now with the new spring.

Calipers...

I just bought calipers for my SHO. Going through a brake reconstruction. It appears my brakes were not working at all in the Rear. One set of pads was smoked, and looks like Caliper was locked up, the other side pads were good, but appears to have been locked up as well. Bought new Rotors, Calipers, and Pads. Hopefully I don't have a major problems putting it back together.

One question though...The guy I bought it from said that the E brake was not hooked up. Sure enough on the drivers side the cable wasn't even connected to the Caliper holding, the passenger side was connected and through the bracket, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it out. It has a nubbing on the end, thus it can't be fed through the hole on the caliper. I need to disconnect to turn in this caliper for a new one. Do I cut off the nubbing? Anyone had to deal with this?

Thanks alot,

Jeff

All Taurus cars with rear wheel disc brakes that have the solid rotor use the same caliper.

Putting that spring on sux or atleast used to until I founf a better way. Compress the sring with a pair of channel locks. Wrap a piece of bailing wire around it for or 5 times. Install it. Cut the wire. I hear it works with tie wraps as well. I would used a fairly heavy tie wrap, though.

ANother related problem I have is I can't instal the lower caliper mounting bolt with the ebrake cable in place. If the bolt was a few c hairs shorter, I could. Anybody ever try grinding a thread off the bolt? I asked about this before and nobody seemed to have an issue with it at the time. Maybe I have longer than stock bolts.
