Generally, you want to use the lowest octane possible w/o the motor pinging or detonating.

It will only help if you advance the timing to take advantage of the extra detonation resistance. On a stock SHO you'll lose power with that octane rating.

my SHO is happy with the 86-87 octane. I only put 90+ to give the SHO a treat every month or so. I havent noticed a performance decrease or increase. Mostly in the head if you think it does any better. Personally with a stock SHO it saves money to put the regular in. Though I did notice a slight increase in fuel economy due to the higher octane. Makes sense though.
