Interesting, and no. I have not heard of a single discussion on this subject matter.

Worthwhile though for sure.

Especially moving forward as parts supplies will certainly become an issue to contend with in the future.

The SHO AWD system is built by JTEKT. Haldex has been out of the picture since, oh, about the 2007 MY?

There is a lot of sharing with Mazda too, for the same reason: that Ford had a significant stake in Mazda for years.

The Ford D3 platform differs slightly from the original configuration of the Volvo P2 architecture. To reduce production costs, Ford Motor Company adopted steel suspension arms (in place of aluminum) and similar material cost-saving measures.

No wonder we call these things Lead Sleds:)

Ford owned Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin, and had a majority share in Mazda. Suffice it to say any drawings that were owned by said companies could be pulled out of the drawers and copied at will. Also, suppliers of the components for each line of cars can be common, and made to fit in other makers cars. Ford was much more interested in Volvo design than sharing components with Volvo. You will find Mazda and Ford share components but you won’t find Land Rover parts in explorers and so on. It’s a complex engineering task with patents being high on a list of legal things to consider. I have to say I drove a Volvo S 80 before I bought my Taurus and they feel a lot like the same car except the Taurus is much quicker.
