Ran across this video on YouTube:

After draining, he temporarily installs a check valve on the drain opening to refill PTU. Then quickly removes the check valve to reinstall the drain plug.

Don't think much of that method at all!

You want the **** to overflow the fill plug port. Just measuring stuff is not for me. It's just too simple to pull the fill plug and do it properly.

With such a tiny amount of fluid in the PTU do you really want to gamble on that 1 to 1.5 oz estimate?

I’ve thought about a similar way once I drill/tap a drain using a fumoto valve for oil changes.
They have a ball valve installed on them already.

When I did my ptu I ended up doing it roughly this way. Not the best way but its better than letting the current gear oil cook in there. I could not get that heat shield off for the life of me.

I would also say if you chose to do it this way jack the passenger side up as high as you can to get the car at an angle and hopefully loose less oil.

cant you fill it from the vent?? i saw a video of a guy changing some explorer interceptor ptu fluid and he was filling it from the vent. i'm in the middle of trying to do this job right now.

That is exactly how I fill mine. I pull the fill plug but fill it through the vent with a hose.
