About 3 days ago my steering wheel started to vibrate when i would go about 40 mph or so. The vibration is the worst from 40-70 mph and at about 80 i think it's still vibrating but it's just so fast that it seems better. I've done my looking around at this problem and from what i can put together it is a balancing problem or basicly a dead tire problem. Now here's something I can't explain. I took it into the dealer here (Alan Ford) to get the front tires balanced since it was only the steering wheel that was vibrating. They looked at if for about an hour but couldn't get a good balance. They said that their machine was getting different weights or whatever each time they tried so they couldnt actually finish the balance and the the guy i talked to (service rep, not a mech) had no idea what was causing it. Instead of shelling out $90 or so on a new tire I thought i'd ask the forum for some help.....anyone know whats goin' on, cause i have no idea

either mechanics that do not know how to operate their machines properly, or you have a bad tire. If they are indeed getting different readings every time, it sounds like there is something INSIDE the tire

Have you ever used a fix-a-flat?

No matter, at this point I would look into new tires.

I agree. If the tire will not balance, there is because where the off center weight is at is moving, then it sounds like something could be loose inside the tire. Take it off and sloosh it around a bit to see if you can hear anything. If you can, then you need to take the tire off the rim and get whatever it is out.

Unless you have used something that puts material into the tire of the people that mounted it left something inside it, I agree something is very wrong with the tire. Either way, it is going to have to come off to either remove the problem or get on a new tire.
